NOTE: info intended for 2015-2019 single rear wheel Transit 150-250-350. I don't have info about the clearance on 2020+ Transit vans (I assume it hasn't changed, but I don't know for sure)

Thanks Bill. The tire size was on the list but without reference to the lift or short WB for the spare. My update included those details to help anyone with a similar configuration in the future.

It seems like the upgrade tire of choice is the BFG KO2 in the 245/75/16. However, with overall diameter being a concern wouldn't the slightly smaller in diameter 255/70/16 (30.1" diameter vs the 245/75 - 30.5" diameter) be a better choice?

Here is some potential points to consider (Note: my van is a 2021 HR Ext AWD SRW camper van)

1) Both are load rating E. - The alternative of 245/70/16 is only D rated, not sufficient for my build. Others may be able to use this option.
2) I would like to use the stock 6.5" rims. Are stock rims wide enough for the 255?
3) I believe there is no issue in mounting the 245/75/16 in the spare tire space on the Ext model, but not positive. It is an issue on the non Ext model, so the 255 might work better for the bulk of owners.
4) Are their other interference issues on the 255/70/16 on stock rims that I am not aware of.

Why have the bulk of owner chosen the 245/75/16 when it doesn't fit in the spare tire space and requires more mods to the fender wells. Wouldn't the 255/70/16 be a better option? Is it only an issue with the stock rim width, and most don't want to upgrade their rims to a 7.5" width?

I fitted 245/70-16 Cooper Discoverer 4s to my 2021 130wb cargo. As previous posters have documented, they fit without problems and will accommodate wheel well liners and even mud flaps. There has been a question regarding the spare fitting up underneath, being as how the 130 wb is particularly tight. The Coopers do fit, barely, with full pressure but I felt is was necessary to use the ratchet strap method as the tire is being cranked into place, just to get the spare as far back as possible. Still there is only about 1/2" clearance from the differential, as pictured

Just to minimize the numerous threads about the topic, and to have a one-stop answer center, let's contribute to this thread by keeping speculation, opinion (me>:D), and lengthy discussions out.

If you have used a tire size successfully, list that tire size.
If the tire rubbed, say yes or no and keep description/story to just one sentence clarifying the situation if needed.
If you had to make modifications, keep the description/story to just one sentence; and do NOT provide a complete instruction manual.

It would be great if we could the thread make it look like a technical manual entry rather than a personal blog.
There had been a question online about the need for a "C" rated tire elsewhere. The "C" stands for commercial, meaning a tire rated for a heavier load. Most tire dealers are required by law to replace tires with one with equal or greater carrying capacity than the tire specified by the vehicle manufacturer. There should be a sticker on the driver's door post with tire recommendations. Stick with it. If you ever sell your vehicle with an underrated tire and there is an accident you could be held liable for selling the vehicle with inadequate tires on it.

Wanted to thank this forum for all the valuable info when I was shopping for new wheels and tires. Ended up ordering the Method 701’s 17” with the Falken AT3 245/75 R17’s. They look amazing and ride great! Had to trim about 1” off pinch weld and air dam on front. Rear no problem with fit. Didn’t even try a spare, not sure what I’m going to do on that yet.

2016 350 Wagon 148” WB low roof
Falken Wildpeak AT3 245/75/17
Quigley 4x4 2” lift
