The 2 wires in that connector that contain the camera feed are white/green and brown/purple, you can tap them and connect an RCA plug.

@asdrew Thanks for the clarification. That worked!
Do you know what the other wires in that cluster do? I think the steering wheel button signals are in there too. Do you know which those wires are?

No, the camera feed was the only one I used.

I just finished installing a new HU and it works great, except for now my dash is showing an airbag light. I’ve read through every mention I could find about the airbag switch (or indicator) on this thread but still haven’t found a definitive solution.

My van had the mid level stock radio with 4.2 inch screen. There was no airbag indicator light on the stock radio. The panel where the airbag indicator would be on the factory stereo is just a black cover, not a light as shown in the last picture here:
To be clear, the vans come with a range of audio choices: radio delete, base radio, mid audio or navigation. There may be a feature option in there somewhere but it's unimportant to the discussion. If your van came with anything but a mid audio system, you would have had a separate little panel with the passenger air bag indicator.

That small panel (part number 14B268) would insert into the Metra 99-5832G in the provided hole above the hazard switch.

If you had the mid audio your passenger airbag indicator would have been integrated with the audio control panel.

So you need to purchase part number 14B268 and place it into the 99-5832G in the hole above the hazard switch as (indicated in the third pic) and throw the blank filler plate away.

Capisce?

I got the more expensive Metra kit that Crutchfield recommended (99-5835G), which comes with the indicator light. I have the connector from the factory wiring harness plugged into the back of the Metra indicator light (but it’s not lit). The airbag warning light on my dash is on.

Do I maybe have a bad airbag indicator light from Metra? (plenty of reviews on Crutchfield mentioned that this is a problem). Can I just unplug the connector (I‘m pretty uncomfortable leaving something that has to do with the airbags unplugged…but I’m also uncomfortable with the warning light!). Can I get a Ford part (indicator light) to swap into the Metra kit? When I look up that part number mentioned in the post above “14B268”, it doesn’t look like the right part that I would need.

If I remember correctly, my Metra kit (2015-2019) was just a plastic frame, and I transferred the Transit airbag and hazard light things to it. Did you triple check to make sure the wires are all plugged in correctly? I don't think it's possible to reverse the wires going to the indicator light, but maybe...

Thanks for the replies.

@surly Bill , there are two Metra kits. One is for setups like yours where the van already has the airbag indicator light, and you can just switch it over into the new kit (Metra 99-5832G?). The other kit (99-5835G) is for vans with the 4” screen which had the airbag indicator integrated into the stereo… so that kit ships with an indicator light that one of the factory connectors plugs in to.

I think I’m discovering that my passenger wagon doesn’t even have an airbag defeat switch at all, meaning that the passenger airbag is always on. My factory stereo (which would have the integrated indicator light) just has an empty panel where the light would be. Also there is no defeat switch in the glove compartment. So maybe that’s the cause of the airbag warning light in the dash coming on when I plug the harness into the Metra indicator light (the system is not programmed to have an indicator light, since there’s no defeat switch). When I leave the harness unplugged the warning light in the dash turns off.

I wonder if there’s a way to add a defeat switch? Kids are going to be bummed about not getting to ride in the front seat (but I’m glad I know now!)!

Just finished this project. I thought I was going to be making a custom harness to match wires from the original stereo to the new one. Turns out modern cars have a lot more going on than just the speakers, antenna and power. In my case I needed two additional modules. One was for the vehicle to stereo in order to retain the camera, the other was to incorporate the steering wheel controls. One piece I needed to buy after the fact was an airbag light. The original airbag indicator was built into my radio controls. Now it is a stand alone light that clips right into the after market dash kit.

Here is my solution, not pretty but what an upgrade!

They should be. They are a camera function, not part of the display.
Parking guide lines are usually preserved, however DYNAMIC (with curving trajectory) parking guide lines aren't necessarily, depending on your vehicle. I spoke with a tech advisor at Maestro today (2.11.22) at length about whether or not any of their iDatalink Maestro Universal Radio Replacements (like the ADS-MRR) was capable of preserving DYNAMIC parking guide lines on any Kenwood radio (even with advanced camera features) for my 2019 Ford Transit 350 cargo van (4" back-up camera screen, no Nav)- and their answer was "NO."
Has anyone been able to find any radio (head unit) and wiring kit that were able to preserve DYNAMIC parking guide lines? Thanks for any leads.

I have a JVC head unit with wiring harness from crutchfield. JVC lines are off and van lines remain fully dynamic as long as in reverse. The camera is on all the time so I can show it on the head unit anytime but lines are visible and static when going forward.

Thanks for your reply! Could you please let me know which JVC head unit and wiring harness you're using? The issue might be for the year and model Transit I have (2019 Transit 350), but you've given me hope to keep looking!

Installed in my 2015, used Metra kit, and the passenger airbag light from a junker, had the 4 in radio. Tried ordering from dealer but apparently all lights are on backorder at Ford and no eta, dunno whag gives. This is the Eonon 10 in Android, with wireless Android auto and Apple car play, love it so far, the 10in looks amazing.

I am trying to figure out how to do this install but struggling. 2016 transit with the 4.2" screen.
Does this list cover what I need? The instructions from the Axxess documents are not as good as I expected...

I have:
Jensen CAR710X head unit
Metra 99-5832G kit
Metra 40-EU10 antenna
Axxess AX-FDSYNC-SWC harness
Axxess ASWC-1 harness
XSIV-5524-NAV harness

Is there a document that lists out what all of the OEM wires in the van do? I couldn't find the BEMM online anymore

@tims5377 : Search this thread.. i found post #32 helpful and ordered the idata items to address my canbus need and being able to remove 4.2” screen. Take note that many posted that the 4.2 display needed to stay intact (hidden under dash or otherwise) to maintain camera function if used with Axxess items.

I’m grounding to black-blue at radio harness.

Im in the middle of doing a stereo upgrade myself. Single din w/double din kit is installed with audio working but needed to figure out turn signals, reverse, steering controls all from canbus data.
