i'd love to know the width of a high roof van (interior, of course) at the 72" height level. trying to figure out how easily a 62" bedframe (60" mattress + 1" side rails) can be hung from the ceiling above my head.

i think i measured the minimum width up at the very top (which was about 6'4-1/2") as 61", which is minimal for my purposes, but i think workable. the bed may not pull all the way to the ceiling in any case, due to the lift mechanism.

The ETIS cad file (which may or may not accurately represent reality) gives a width of 63" at a height of 72".

I have attached a pdf of just the cross section. You want the purple lines for the interior wall. If you were lower down you would want the red lines for the window indents. The interior yellow lines are the back door opening. The grid is 20 cm.

I also attached my latest effort, a section of my model with an accurate representation of the 13' canoe that I want to hang from the ceiling. It's a tight but possibly manageable fit.

thanks terry! if nothing else, these measurements have convinced me that i probably shouldn't build the frame for a full 60"-wide mattress until i have a van in my driveway to measure carefully.

good luck with that canoe. and don't forget the drip tray underneath. :) i'm actually thinking we won't even try to put our 16' canoe on our high-roof van. i just spent 45 minutes on the Folbot site. pricey. :(

Yes I was thinking about drips the other day. It's one more little detail.

Like you I am not really able to solidify my plans until I get the van in my hands. For me it will come down to whether I have an extra inch here or am missing an inch there.

Cheers

Did you ever finish this model? Are you willing to share?

Sorry, I didn't take the model any further than you can find in this thread for reasons outlined in post 19 above.

When the van arrived I did do cardboard mock-ups of the fridge, cupboards and bed to make sure that I would have enough room to move around. It came down to an inch here and an inch there so I'm glad that I took the time to get it right.

I even did a mock-up of the canoe (some cardboard cross-sections attached to a rigid spine) before I ordered the canoe. It too was a tight fit.

Cheers

Terry, I am a new boy on the forum and cannot send any PMs, I wondered how I could attain a copy of your layout drawing.
Hopefully, I am not no 101 to make this request.
Here are the latest SketchUp files that I have. As I no longer have SketchUp on my machine, I'm not exactly sure what they contain. I've had to zip the files to get this site to accept the upload.

Sorry for the slow response, I was away hiking in Cape Breton.

Cheers.

I have just taken some hi-res photos of the interior of my empty 148" high roof cargo van with adhesive measuring tape on the walls. I really could have used something like this over the last few months - hope this helps someone else. Some comments:

1. I discovered after I received the tape that it was actually a series of 12" rulers printed on masking tape with 1/4" separating each ruler. So you'll see on the photos where I noted you have to subtract out the extra 1/4" for each foot of measurement. So at 10' on the right side for example, the tape shows 10', but the actual measurement is 10'- 2.25".
2. The blue tape shows the width of the van at 3 different heights as it tapers from bottom to top
3. If you zoom in you can read the detailed ruler measurements.

Once I had the tape up on the walls, testing various layouts went quickly, as I didn't have to keep measuring things.

we are uploading our data here as needed for our patrons. 10 buxxxx. Helps support our small family business. Just trying to give some other options. We do not think these are necessary for builds but some REALLY enjoy them. https://www.patreon.com/dansvans Pretty much all bare frame specific area models available in most configuration of the transit cargo only (same frame for passenger) We can also produce all interior models (seats, dash etc.) for fit checks or design. Also available for other popular vans. Lead time involved per request. (Showing three configs in section snipit attached thus multiple wheel well views and wall panel heights shown)

STAY RAD OUT THERE!

These old links are dead. Anyone have updated links to these?
Here is a link from a previous Thread. You can find more, using the SEARCH, above right.

The layout was used for the 80/20 framework that sits on top of the added 1/2" plywood floor. The floor starts at forward face of the rear door frame and goes forward 130". There is also more information and pictures about the floor construction:

Thank Orton.

Is there any info with the height and length on top of the wheel wells? Any info on interior height of the cargo area (for an MR van)?
Best to go to a local Ford dealer and spend some time measuring the size of the wheel wells. I spent several hours inside a couple of vans getting dimensions. If you measure you know exactly how it was measured.

I looked at my web site but did not find the dimensions but you might find other useful information.
