And since it's a metric vehicle, it makes sense to stick with that system if you add threaded inserts. A lotta people use ¼-20 hardware instead of 6 mm. Seems counterproductive to me to mix systems.

Whatever. Functionally the same. Only difference is what wrench you use.

I added a long bolt using the existing tapped hole in the door frame. Put a wood dowel on the bolt and then a shortened rubber bicycle handle grip. Works very well.
