Thanks for posting this. Mine are item # P38846 and are at least 15 years old. I don't use them for autos - just mowers so not a lot of weight but still would cause severe injury if my mower fell.

 

Looks suspiciously identical to my Craftsman branded jack stands

Along with the old version of the Harbor Freight 3 ton stands, I also have the 6 ton version of these Torin stands. Both Torin versions have locking pins.

I checked mine, and they are not the recalled SKU number...Oddly enough I don't feel any better about using them!

 

I always leave the jack in place and use the jackstands as an extra precaution. I also have a bunch of 1-2' 4x4 that I'll use as cribbing. The stack of 4x4's is the only thing that I'm confident with!

 

Hard to argue with the reliability of a 4x4 with no moving parts. If I have one of the wheels off I find it quite handy to slide it under the vehicle with a sturdy piece of thick timber on top for two reasons; keep it out of the way and a little added safety.

 

Recalls is the manufacture stepping up. Expensive tool makers have recalls too.
