99-5832G on factory backorder

Talked to Metra inside sales yesterday and the kit is on backorder by over 1,000 pieces. They shipped 299 last month so some of us got one. They referred me to Sonic Electronix in Chatsworth (one of the largest Metra dealers) and they don't even list in in product line. :(

The rep further said that the kit has several very complex pieces so there may (or may not) be an issue with delays in QC as they reject poor pieces. This is only conjecture on my part hearkening back to my days in thermoplastic production.

My vendor, CarID from Ebay, just cancelled my order and refunded my money after the third delay in shipping. I have reordered with HifiSoundConnection and they said about 3 to 4 days so we'll see.

Diego,
Can you clarify your post a little bit? The kits you mention are the wiring kits, but the pictures you post mention cutting of the mounting kit? Which mounting kit did you use? Can you post more details and pics of your install?

According to the Metra website, the 70-5524 harness and 40-eu10 antenna adapter is all that's needed.

These are the 2 items.....

Hopefully, somebody that has actually done the installation can confirm. I don't want to buy a $100 adapter if it's not necessary. My install will be replacing the stock base radio (no cd, no nav, no 4" display) with a Pioneer double din DVD receiver (also no nav).

I'm in the same boat. I sent a request to Crutchfield for installation information along with a link to the double DIN kit.

I emailed Metra today, actually. They said the 99-5832G kit would work on the Transit with the 4.2 inch LCD, but he also referenced an adapter for the Nav system, which I don't have. I replied asking for clarification about only needing an adapter for the backup camera. I'll update when I hear back.

Metra guy is trying to be helpful, but no matter how many times I ask "Do I need the NAV adapter to hook up the reverse camera" he always says "AM/FM only needs the 70-5524 adapter".

/sigh

Off to find a place that at least has the double-din plastics in stock.

The adapter to integrate the Camera is not available. I used to live in Daytona Beach (5 miles from Metra), where I was a car stereo installer while I was in college. Many of the guys I used to work with, now work at Metra. I am good friends with the Southeast Regional Sales Rep for Metra. When I spoke to him last month, the Dash kit is available. This will work for basic systems and if you want to remove your 4" display. The harness and adapters will allow you to integrate the basic radio, and the 4". If you have a backup camera, there is no adapter to retain it with the new head unit. They are still working on this for several ford vehicles. When I have a chance, I was going to try and rip apart the dash and look at the camera adapter to see if I can "rewire" the camera to fit into the aftermarket radio. My concern is that the trend lines, trailer assist line, and the proximity detect indicators are all integrated on the video image at the LCD. If that is true, the it would be lost without some integration adapter.

Any chance you know whether or not that Metra dash kit fits in below the existing LCD, so I could just leave it in place and not replace that top lid part?

Edit: pictures seem pretty obvious it will not, never mind.

That would make it way too easy....:D
