My rear diff on my 2015 is leaking a tiny bit ( I hope only a tiny bit), noticed it the other day when installing a heater under the van. Anyway does anyone know if the 2018 rubber gasket you guys mentioned will fit on the 2015 diff?
Why bother? Just pull the cover and use normal rtv or whatever gasket maker.

Just a heads up the limited-slip in the transits are just like the F150. They are no good. Ford replaced mine under warranty. Typically you will hear a groaning noise coming from the rear end when you're making a slow turn left or right.

Thanks Dude!

Just looked under the van and will have to buy more tools to do this simple job.
Deep socket impact wrench sockets for those three nuts on extended studs for the cable routing attachment.

Just finished the diff. oil change and to my surprise I had no issues getting the cover bolts out.
There were no signs of loctite on the bolts as well.

I found what looks like a breather or fill tube connected to the top left axle shaft housing with the
end loosely capped and clipped to the spare tire cable mounting area.

Based on the amount of black film all over the internal parts at 61,000 miles I will be changing the oil more often.

Have yet to test drive since the cover gasket maker material takes hours to cure.

BTW, Ford failed to attach the breather correctly and had it laying right on top of the differential housing.
They put a foam rubber sleeve on the breather tubing at that same point but at 61,000 it had already worn through to the tubing.

My 2015 250 with 3.31 LS was making grinding noise on slow speed sharp turns. Fixed under warranty.....

Noise started back up after a week and was worse. Took it back to the dealer, they contacted Ford and was told to soak the clutches in a friction modifier. So far so good after about 5,000 miles....

People that write repair orders like that, made it very easy for me to earn a good living for a lot of years.

Or in their "language", Peoplethat writ repr orders like that madit verrey eazy form eto earn a good living foralot of year.

Complaint, Cause, and Correction. It's just three things to document. It's not rocket surgery...

FYI

Somewhere in this post there is a mention of low diff oil level.

I decided to check mine. Over 4 oz too low. Roughly 5% less than needed. Not a major issue but still low with the potential of increasing wear and noise. I just topped up but will likely change at about 40k this summer. The plug had more black gunk on it than I would have expected at 30k. This is on the factory limited slip diff.

According the scumbag dealer closest to my house, where I go to look and waste their time but never buy, there is a differential cover gasket listed for the 2015. I shoulda got a part number. Anyone know what it is?

Edit: HL3Z 4036-A is the part number. Took some searching. Found one for an F150 on ebay and it cross referenced to the 2015 Transit on ford parts giant. It's not shown in the Helm manual, where a bead of spooge is the only seal. Not certain I ever looked all that close, but I don't recall seeing a gasket peaking out of the interface on mine.

This question has been asked but I could not find an answer. Sorry if it's been answered but hidden somewhere. How do you check if the differential level is low? Do you just fill it to the until overflow?

Thanks ...

On level ground, take off the fill plug.
You should be able to touch the top level of the fluid with your pinky or a screwdriver.
Or, it should just start to seep out.

If neither happens, fill until it starts draining out of the threaded hole. After it stops draining plug it up.

Hi all,
I have a 2015 AWD (EU). Can anybody tell me if this is a limited slip diff in the AWD Version (? I wanted to change the diff oil and ordered some 75w-90 LS oil but as I am watching all this YouTube experts I am not sure if can just put LS oil in. o_O Thank you

I ordered this pan: aFe Power 46-70152 (+1 quart over stock. Notice the sight glass AND dipstick)
AMSOIL(r) SVG 75w90 all the way for me! Friction modifier is 'optional' with it (As many stated with other synthetic gear oils). I do have the LS rear-end so I will be adding the modifier. Not needed if you don't have an LS rear ;-)

I also ordered this transmission pan: aFe Power:46-70172 (+7 quarts over stock!!) I'll check for crossbar clearance first.
AMSOIL(r) ATL for that.

Any time you can provide more fluid in a system, that system will last longer (plus run cooler as there is more volume to heat up AND more liquid in contact with cooling fins)

My engine oil gets changed every 25,000Km with AMSOIL(r) ALM 5w20 in Summer and ASM 0w20 in Winter.

With only ~40,000km on my Aug '17 received van, I will be swapping that rear diff cover this Summer.
Did the transmission pan work, or was there not enough room with the cross member down there? (not sure if thats what I saw but it looked tight and I know getting those out is a pain.) Also I realize this thread is old and thank-you for posting this.
