ARC weight!?

Until now had never paid attention to ARC weight or what it means.

Accessory Reserved Capacity seems to be the maximum weight that can be added to a van in looking at the definition.

I don't understand why it isn't the difference between curb weight and GVWR or the same as load capacity.

It seems that some of the conversions where people are installing toilets, gas cooking, heaters, refrigerators, and lots of water capacity, not to mention batteries, beds, cabinets, showers and apparatus on the roof etc must well exceed factory specified ARC weights.

What is up with that?

Some USAF terms for air vehicles:
Basic Weight. Out the factory door.
Operating Weight. Above, plus stuff added to the vehicle to increase utility.
Gross Weight. Any of three maximum vehicle weights.
Useful Load: The weight above the operating weight, of stuff added up to the gross weight limit. People, fuel, cargo, etc..

"Reserve load" might be the useful load?

In the aviation business: "Grams make ounces. Ounces make pounds. And, pounds make problems". Keep it light. Operate it right.
