Real curious to see this go down.

I get on the low side of what lots of guys claim with my 3.0 V6 2013 Sprinter 3500.

The Nag 5 blows.Full stop.

Savvy sprinter drivers massage around it with scan gauge monitoring, but day in day out, the Fords got to be better in the trans space.

Im guessing 6 to 6 the transmission in the ford wins the round.

Of course the smaller benz with the 7 speed gets better mileage than the 3.2, but how does it run and last at rated weight?

Thanks again for posting yesterday in that other thread. I took the liberty of copying your recent mileage here.

 

Not sure of my rear end ratio? But I have the LWB dually HD model and get 19.5-20.5mpg with mixed driving. I have gotten 26mpg on a short road trip that was all highway, but that dropped back down once I got back into town lol.

My van has 5k miles on it.

 

It would be great if you could look up your rear end ratio from your invoice or window sticker. Thanks

 

250 ext. 331 rear 2500 miles, 18.5 MPG (hand cal.)most 45-65 rural driving. One 900 mile trip with 1000 lb cargo.
Will go to Fl. in Feb. towing 16 ft tandem axel tr. Will report mileage on return

 

Just some quick inputting:
1- First tank avg had 22.1 on computer and 20.85 calculated;
2- Around town, Orlando, avg traffic, no why's got about 21.8 computer;
3- On Hwy, resetting computer every 50 miles or so, notice Van mpg VERY sensitive to speed, guess mostly due to the HR. 25.3 mpg at 55 mph, 22.8 mpg at 65 mph and 21.5 mpg at 75 mph. Wind direction will also affect results a lot.
My van is a 250, diesel, srw, 3.31 LS, HR.
Van had no load, empty. 600 miles on odometer.

Thanks for the details Gianz. Interesting what a difference the 3.31 rear end seems to make on the mileage IMO.

Just started working on my insulation today

 

now have 987 miles first tank of fuel 22.31 mpg 2nd tank 23.22 i'm running 331 rear and 3.2 diesel x long x tall 350 i thank this great i live in the mtns so far all mtn driving everyday driver too.only thing i don't like is exhaust pipe not going out the side or rear.

 

Today I filled up, probably 60% city and 40% highway at 72 miles per hour - averaged 16.8 mpg. Probably have 800 lbs of cargo currently. I have a t250 148 mid length mid roof 3:73 rear end with 3.2 diesel.

Seems like the 3.31 rear end makes a difference, esp. with Larry getting good MPG with the long and tall . . .

Thanks everyone for the mpg reports! I'm hoping for mpg between 23 and 25 with a low roof, 3:31 short wheel base, sure glad I did not order the EB.

Will post as soon as we put enough miles on it calculate mpg. So far we have 25 miles. ;-)

 

We have whole whopping 165 miles on the Beast (formerly known as the vacamobile). Miles are pretty well mixed between rural and highway. Computer-generated MPG is 16.7; and increasing with every mile. More later!

 

Just bought a second transit, this one is a t250 diesel mid roof mid lenght with 3.2 diesel, 3.31 rear end, dont have figures yet but I can already tell it gets significantly better mileage.

 

Our drivers report mileage daily and the boss made a copy of the fuel bill for February so I have fairly accurate numbers though with the oversize tires we checked it out to be 5% over. Taking it all in for February we ran almost 8300 miles and used 424 gallons for a 19.75 MPG average. Big note is that I checked the idle hours vs. running hours and we are idling this thing at 35% of the running hours. I'm not happy with that but its to the passengers so we just have to deal with it.

 

Ok new here but my 3.2l hr el i did two loads 2200lbs. Each, 4 fillups avg. speed cruise @ 68mph. 21.82mpg 23.09mpg 19.45mpg (had idle time) 21.27mpg. Route holland, mi to wilington, DE to trenton, nj to florence, al. All other average 17-19mpg local driving. I use the mileage app.

Thanks for reporting. I'm curious, how tall is your trailer, and about how much does it and van weigh? Even a rough estimate is better than nothing in order to put data in context.

Any chance you have a picture of van with trailer combo you can post?

By the way, how did it tow? Did you have downshifts on hills, enough power for merging, etc...? Anything you'd want different?

 

Transit 9 ft high,van had about 1200 cargo and passengers.Transit had about 1000 cramping gear. Pulled ok,going over My eagle in Tn. Held 65 mph but no acceleration.

 

Thanks again. I read somewhere that Monteagle TN is one of the toughest Interstate climbs in one direction, with grade above the standard maximum which required a waiver. Not sure how accurate the report was/is.

If that's the section you are referring to, and you were hauling a combined weight around 10,000 pounds (I guess-estimated empty weights for your van and trailer), it confirms that an engine with approximately 200 HP can meet my needs comfortably. Even if you were hauling a lot more weight and could only hold 50 to 55 MPH on such a grade, I would be satisfied with that.

For my needs the diesel (or standard V6 by comparison) appears to have plenty of power. Thanks for feedback.

 

Our first fill-up today. 325 miles. 18.8 hand calculated; 17.9 per Transit. We figure about another 5 or 6 fill-ups before it starts leveling out. But we'll take this for the 1st one. Just 2 of us with no other load.

 

2nd fill-up. 18.3 hand calculate; 18.0 per Transit. Just under 600 total miles. This time was mainly in town/country roads and just the 2 of us.

1. 534/19.6=27.5 Gallons? I thought we're dealing with a 25 gallon tank? Is this one fill up?

2. How are you handling the manual regent?

I missed a data point, so i used the trip meter(reset to 0) which was 116 mi. and filled the tank with 5.5 gal.

I haven't used man regen or even read the manual yet. The reading on the DEF has read 15-85% and back down to 30%. I don't know if the system is automatically cleaning or defective or what.

 

Ajaxgrac14: Thanks, I understand now. I would fill the DEF, you don't want that to run empty. Your van should be running cleaning cycles as needed to keep the CAT clean by it's self. The advantage of the manual regen is to allow you to start or delay the burning, ie your showing that a burn is needed soon and your on the highway with 20 - 25 miles to go. You can start it and get the burn completed before you need to shut down. Or if your close to needing a burn, you can delay it and allow it to start next time you take it out.
