I just bought a 2017 passenger van medium roof and want to put an awning on top did some measurements and looks like 8.6 is the right length. Any suggestions for which brand to get and why?

A lot of overlanders use ARB. The largest is, I think, 8'2" and they can be mounted to a roof rack, and replacement parts are available. Best of all, they can be fitted with a screened mosquito room (but that requires mounting the awning no higher than about 6'6".
