OK, it's coming down to the wire and I'm getting impatient. I ordered in Feb and when I received the VIN I waited forever (so it seemed) for the window sticker to show up.

In late March the dealer told me that it was scheduled for a late April delivery.

The window sticker showed up on 4/12 with a build date of 4/20...ok, great. The ETIS site was finally updated on 4/25 and it showed a build date of 4/21...no problem. So I asked my dealer if he had any news on arrival and he said that the van was moved from last week to this week and then it could take upwards of 2 weeks to get shipped.

I'm around 300 miles from KC, so I assume that the van will be trucked.

I'd like to get financing finished up, but can't get approved and let it sit for 2 weeks as the CU doesn't allow that. I'm not thrilled with the idea of getting a call saying "It's here, come pick it up" as I'm crazy busy with a giant pile of kids and their activities and would rather have some idea, this week, next week, 2 weeks from now??

Is there anything else that can track the location of the van? I don't really trust my dealer to have the best info since they haven't been as useful as this forum in the past.

Thanks!

Get daily Full History report

theyoungs07,

Ask your dealer for a "Full History " report, daily.
Takes them about 20 seconds to do and print out.
It will show you where your Transit is and every move it makes as it gets closer.

If Ford updates the rebate on the 2016 Transit, you may get more than the current $2100 that is currently available. I think May 9th, when the first day of orders for the 2017 Transit are open, Ford will make another change on the rebates. Think another $500 extra rebate is worth the wait?

When you get your Transit, you might check the top and sides for hail damage. There was hail in the KC area this past week and some Transits sitting outside got slight hail damage, especially ones east of the plant.

All I hear is that it has been shipped, as of Friday. They can't tell me anything else because they can't track shipping...supposedly. I'd guess it should be trucked since we're not 500+ miles from KC.

theyoungs07,

Did you ask for a "Full History " report?
Ford tracks the shipping for the dealer.
You can get it from them daily.

If your dealer will printout a Full history report, it will tell you when it leaves the plant and the rail car number where it was placed. Then you can go to the rail car company and get tracking on it.

I have followed a Ford vehicle from build to the exact day it made it to the dealership. Even drove down the road next to the rail car and got pictures of it moving down the tracks. That is how exact you can get the transportation movement on your Transit. The information is there; the dealer just has to access it.

Here are the pictures of the rail car which carried a 2016 Shelby GT350 from the Flat Rock Assembly plant to the Forney Road Distribution Center. When you get the rail car number, you may be able to track it like we did! One side looks like a nice new rail car, but who got credit for the mural on the other side? Rail Car #ETTX 852394

CVM,

You can track it through the railroad, also. But the same info is on the Full History report. Every remote railroad way point it passes, is shown on the full history report.

Read that Ford had to get special rail cars built to transport at least the high roof Transits & heard they had clearance problems with some of the smaller versions. Rumor suggested the problem surprised Ford & delayed early shipments by forcing them to use flatbed trucks instead.

Do medium roof Transits fit in the standard rail cars?

Medium and high roof models require the special height rail cars. No surprise to Ford as they had already seen the problem as the Sprinter and Promaster were in the same shape. The regional distribution centers already had a few of the flat bed trailers/trucks that were delivering the box trucks, but now with the larger height vans, they were needed more in numbers.

That is a problem I found early on and when I tracked a high roof extended wagon from KC to FL and knew there had to be a solution to it. So far, using a dealer close to the plant at least helps to get the Transit into the hands of the owner a little faster. Finding a good dealer with knowledge of the Transit plus a small family owned dealership willing to work with forum members on delivery and price, has made the experience a lot better.

I do not think there will be any changes to the transportation timeframe. The Ford dealers just need to be honest with the customer and tell them the truth about the time it will take for the Transit to be built and the timeframe involved in delivery. Then keep in touch with the customer letting them know when the VIN is issued and the steps from build date to delivery date.

I don't think honesty is a problem here, just inexperience. They did not have any idea how long it would take since one salesman told me 6-8 weeks and the second guy (same night) told me 8-12 weeks. The volume just isn't high enough at most of the "residential" Ford dealers, they know how fast a Ford Focus/Escape will make it because they order them somewhat often. I felt as though I was blazing a trail in my ordering process and am extremely thankful for the help of you folks on this website. I was able to correct the dealer on a few option codes/conflicts thanks to having my homework done ahead of time.

I've asked for a Full History Report but have not heard back, hopefully today. 83 days and counting. I'd be less anxious if I wasn't driving around a vehicle that I've signed to trade in...I'd hate for something to happen to it while in limbo.

On a somewhat different front, I'm waiting for my Transit to be through shipped -- delivered by Ford not from the KC plant but from the 4x4 upfitter (Quigley) in Pennsylvania, to my local dealer near Denver. Quigley said up to 6-8 weeks for that. Fleet manager said a good 2 weeks. I then asked him to run a full history report (so I could line up my ducks for financing and the next upfitter) and he said they can't track vehicles being through shipped. Could anyone verify if that's true? Thx!

Well, I never got the Full History Report, but I drove by the dealership yesterday and it was there. I surprised the salesman who was "about to call me" and ended up completing the transaction last night. The new Big Red is here and my Sprinter Big Red is homeless.

How to get a Full History Report

Over the last year I've read post of many not being able to get their salesman to run a Full History report. Most likely it is because the salesman doesn't have access to the Ford computer system. A lot of dealerships restrict access to the fleet manager and/or general manager, as they can really screw up things for the dealership if they don't know what they are doing. >:D

I was in to my dealership today for my 1st service, 2116 miles, 1 year. (but in my possession for only 5 months) I asked my salesman, the fleet manager what the process was.

First, the salesman has to log into the FMCC system. Look for the "Visability" link. Under that link, click on "Dealer Code" and enter that code.

Then click on "Order Number" and enter that number (you should receive that number when you order your Transit).

Then click on "Search" , your Full History report will then come up.

My fleet manager advised that the information isn't a secret, and takes about 15-20 seconds to access and if your salesman doesn't know how to obtain it, talk to the general manager.

Now you have the info to get your full history report. :D
