Transit 350. Mid roof 148" wb
300 miles total of essentially empty city driving. Computer is showing 18.1 litres per 100km which converted to us mpg is..... 13.....

I'm assuming they run them rich for a break in period?

Original EPA rating was 14 City if I recall correctly, so you're not too far off. Later ratings may have gotten a slight bump to 15.

Two factors that may be making a difference are trip length, and fuel type. The shorter your trips the lower the city MPG results you are likely to see. And if you burn fuel that's not 100% gasoline, that too may drop your MPG. Winter driving can also reduce MPG compared to summer.

In city driving 13 would not surprise me based on my experiences. Measured over short distances I see the computer display 8-10 mpg in the city. It settles down to about 15 with mixed driving, which is really 13.5 - 14 as measured. I suggest ignoring the computer until you have some factual data to work with. I suspect the error, like mine, is fairly consistent. Once you know how far off it is, it becomes useful.

I really wish they offered the 2.7 eco in the Transit, and another gear in the transmission. surely it would improve the mileage a few mpg's.... a tradeoff I would accept

My long and tall Transit has been 13-20 mpg ever since it was new, depending on how I drive it. I get 13 mpg in my very hilly town all the time. In the big city with mixed driving, 15-18. 13 is about right if all you're doing is city driving.

I'm not even going to bother checking what my mileage is until it has a couple thousand miles on it. It seems marginally better than the 5.4 V8 I was driving for years.

Gas is cheap, I could really care less. I reckon it'll be between 12 and 18 thereabouts...I'm good with that. I'll never drive like grandma on purpose.

Right? What's the point in having power, if you're not going to use it on the regular?? Me and my diesel go WOT daily. And if I had an EB, we'd go WOT just as much.

Duster, I noticed you referenced liters in your post. Are you in Canada? If so it's probably cold up there. For several reasons, vehicles get worse mileage in the winter, one of which is air density. The Transit pushes an enormous amount of air, which is much more dense in the cold. Add in wet/snowy pavement, wind, defroster/AC, higher electrical load, and wintert fuel formulas and mileage is usually significantly worse in the winter. Check this out: https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/coldweather.shtml

Your only missing out on making a mess of the throw pillows and maybe pulling a hamstring, depending on your level of enthusiasm. >:D

My average mileage after 6000 miles is 13.76.
Never got over 15.5 but I have hit the speed limiter several times (98) and now everywhere I go takes way less time.

I'd love this engine in a 32 Ford pickup. Wow.

Ford will sell you a 3.5 EB in a crate package. The Trucks show, on Spike is putting one in a 53 F-100.
