Looks like it's on the inside and outside. Could be under inflation. Id get a good alignment shop to look at it and give you the before and after specs.
That is pretty funky, it almost looks like the temperature rating (B or C rated tire, slightly under-inflated on some super hot tarmac) on the tire has been exceeded and chunks are being eaten away as result.
Andre, could be the 75mph driving in 105+ degree weather. I wonder what temperatures the blacktop (and my tires) would register.
I'll have to pack my infrared thermometer and take some readings when we go camping next weekend. Temps will only be in the mid 90's but it will give some data points.
