Well here are some pics of my Van. I wanted a crew van, but obviously they do not make them. I like the Passenger van anyways as I get finished interior headliner/panels, Rear AC/Heat and I can look out my windows while I work.

Just posting these as it may help others too so they can see how this beast is laid out.

Let me know if you have any questions. This took about two months and I did 95% of it. Only Diamond plate and rear bulkhead was custom made for me.

Everything in here is bolted solid and will not budge. Very happy with the end result. :D

A lot of special orders go this route with ordering the Transit Wagon and then adding the Builders Prep package. You get the wagon features without the extra seats inside so you don't have to pay for the extra seats and you have the floor to order as you wish.

One feature you have making a crew van with the wagon is the side air bags are in place for the additional passenger area. Using the Transit van leaves that area without side protection. On the prototype Crew Van, there are side air bags in the area right behind the passenger area in the sliding door area. Right now looks like the bulkhead behind the added seat is a solid partition with small holes in it. Looking to add a open area in the partition so you can look through and see to the rear of the Transit if no cargo is loaded inside.

How hard was it to put the airbag covers (or what ever that top piece is called) back up? Did you need more hardware or did they just snap back into place?

Is making a van into a crewvan safe

CrewVanMan,

I know you have commented on the crew van and builders prep package previously.

But doesn't adding the builders prep package to a wagon, not only eliminate the rear seats, but also eliminates any type of floor support for adding seats, later?
Might be more economical to order wagon with seats, remove same and sell and placing desired seats in factory mounts.

Than to have to pay for engineering and welding modifications that won't void warranty or insurance coverage in case of an accident. Just to make it a crewvan.

No matter if you have the Builders Prep package or the factory seating, you still have the Wagon body that has the supports for factory seating, just not drilled out for the frame rails to mount the factory seats. A lot of small conversion companies order the Wagon with the Builders Prep package and then add the aftermarket seating in it. There is a dealer here in Dallas (Sam Pack Ford, Plano) who ordered some low roof wagons with the BPP and they sent them locally to be converted. VIN 1FDZK1ZM7GKA28806 is one of the 4 (GKA28803, 8804, 8805, and 8806) ordered with the BPP to be converted locally.

I have found that the BPP is used mostly for handicap conversions and some sold to conversion companies. I would question more of the conversions companies ordering the T-250 Van with the van flooring for conversions. They simply order a T-250 with the all window package and then do the conversion. We know the van floor is not setup for the mounting of the factory seating that has the extra metal reinforced panels where the frame rails go through the floor. One of our forum members just looked at a T-250 he thought was a highly optioned T-250 he wanted to buy for conversion and found out it was already converted by Sherrod. The dealer never looked at the Transit. They had the Ford factory invoice for the Transit but apparently did not have the invoice for the Sherrod conversion. He was quoted the price based on the Transit at $43K when the actual price should have been $62K. The VIN on the T-250 Transit is 1FTYR2CG3GKA05155 He called me and I checked on the vehicle and told him it was a conversion van as I had checked it out and found out via Ford contact it was sent to Sherrod in GA and converted with 6 other consecutive VINs. He went to the dealer and found the Transit and it was a Sherrod conversion. He called me back wondering if he should just go pay the $43K and get it. Told him the dealer would later find out via dealership accounting department that there was a mistake and they would come try to get the Transit back, even if he paid them in cash! How about that Don T. Dewitt

If you mean the headliner it just snaps back into place. It was a little tough to get them line up after I cut a small hole for mounting bracket, but not bad really.

Want to make a flexible crew cab configuration

I am very interested in the idea of a crew cab configuration. Our use would be around-the-town-mode for 4 people, but also recreation-mode for 2 people. We like safety! So far we are leaning toward a Wagon (height & length are still in the planning stage, but we're flexible) because we would have Ford seats & airbags when carrying passengers. I realize that our design for recreation-mode would have to work around those massive rear-airbag curtains!

But, we are interested in omitting the rear AC. If we are only thinking of carrying at most 4 passengers, I'm thinking that the front AC will work well enough to cool on those occasions (please let me know if I'm wrong here—I'm assuming that every single Transit comes with front AC). If we can omit the rear AC, that would omit the black ceiling ductwork, correct? And this would open up more opportunities for ceiling ventilation fans & ceiling AC units, correct?

It looks like you have a window that opens in the sliding door. Is that an aftermarket window? Does it open? If so, can you point me at the place you got it?

I've been looking for aftermarket window that would open, haven't found any.

Amazing job on the build. Looks fantastic.

The window in the side door is from the factory. They don't open very much 4 inches or so..

4th pic in the first post... looks like light showing from outside, where the vent holes appear in the rear wall liner. Did you have the outside molding removed, to expose the cabin air vent? People have been wanting to see that vent close up, and learn more about it.

i just bought a 2015 transit wagon 150 xlt rwb low roof

the seating set up is annoying.

passenger seats:
first row a two seater with a big open space near the door
second row is a two seater with a split and a little singe seat.
third row is a three seater bench seat.

what i want to do is move the 3 seater from the back and put it in the front seat. so that i can take everything out and build out the van for camping with the family and still seat 5!

the big question? is there a seat rail? or mount under neat the floor board? maybe i can just cut it out and it will snap right in? any help would be great thanks!
