I missed out on a Transit Wagon 150 XLT this weekend. :(. I was going to drive 150 miles to a dealer that I'd found my (so I thought) perfect family wagon. 10 passenger.

Question...can a dealer sell a Transit 150 that has not had the side curtain airbag recall completed? The VIN I missed out on is: 1FMZK1YM5GKA74166

I have since found another Transit XLT 150 - 10 passenger, that my local dealer is doing a dealer swap for, but it also, per the Ford website, needs the side curtain recall completed.

Just wondering if anyone knows if my purchase will be delayed by the recall not being completed and if "parts availability" mentioned here in prior posts for the recall has been cleared up.

Thank you!

Hi Scott, I bought my T-350 a couple of weeks ago and it needed the side curtail recall, the seatbelt recall and the airfilter/drainage one. I bought my vehicle from a non-Ford dealer and they were all too willing to send it as is. I forced them to get it to a Ford dealer and all recalls were addressed within 2 days. The parts seemed readily available.

That depends. There's a stop-sale order that's been issued from Ford over the recall, but that only applies to new vans. So it's against the law if it's new, but perfectly legal if it's used.

This recall delayed the purchase of my used van two weeks until the dealer realized they could sell it to me. It was a Ford dealer, and I think they were confused about the issue. My recall was performed last week, they just needed a few clips to reinstall the headliner after they verify side airbag positioning.

Thank you both for the replies. Sounds like the parts are available, but since it is a "new" van bought from the dealer, I may have to wait until the parts (clips) are available. I did read on a .gov website the full recall info and it mentioned the stop-sale order. The dealer I missed out buying from apparently didn't know that since he sold one I wanted last week that still hasn't been "fixed". Thanks again for the replies!

Hi Scott,
I bought my new 350 XLT wagon last Friday afternoon. Paid for it and got the keys, then the fleet Manager says I can't take it with me. I sort of went off on the guy. I only needed the seatbelt fix so they took it right in and ran to a couple of other dealers for parts.
The dumb thing is that my van has been there since January (Dec. Build).

It's a Federal law, it's not the guy's fault that he couldn't deliver it to you.

Federal law requires dealers to complete this recall service before a new vehicle is delivered to the buyer or lessee. Violation of this requirement by a dealer could result in a civil penalty of up to $7,000 per vehicle. Correct all vehicles in your new vehicle inventory prior to delivery
Attached is the stop-sale order from the NHTSA website.

I had the same problem back in April, they had even had a wheelchair lift installed and called and told me it was ready, I go to pick it up and they could not deliver it due to seatbelt problems. The GM of dealer called ford and got permission to remove all the back seats and then could deliver it which was fine for a while since this vehicle is for our handicapped son who is in a wheelchair. It went on and on and not a word from dealer so I went to Ford website and plugged in my VIN and to my amazement there was no recall for my vehicle. I then called Ford Customer Service and explained to them that I could not find that recall on my vehicle, the lady ran the VIN and she could not find it either. I asked her if she could call the dealership and authorize the release of my seats and she did exactly that and I got my seats back. Apparently there were some vehicles not affected by the recall so check your VIN and if it doesn't show up then call Ford customer service and get them to release your vehicles.

I must re-state: I didn't directly yell at the fleet guy. I was just dismayed that here I paid for a van that they have had for months, have the paperwork, keys and that cool plain manila envelope with the owners manual inside and was sort of stranded.

They really did jump through hoops to get me delivered within the hour.
