Hi everyone, I am sure most of you read my 1st review, Well now I took the Eco boost for a spin. Two words best sums it up "HOLLY-CRAP" This motor is a beast, unlike the 3.7 this will leave my 04 Diesel Sprinter (5 cyl.) for dead.

I also noticed the rpms @ 70 are only 2,000. The Sprinter 2500, which equals more MPG, speaking of MPG, I zeroed out the display and it got up to 16 MPG, which is OK, but no where near my 24 on the Sprinter. However I am looking at the low roof so figure @ 18 MPG (guessing). This motor is F&*%$ sick

This engine (ecoboost) has almost 100 hp more inside the ECU
Yes, its SICK! I drove one @ the tour in Dearborn and its the best motor by FAR.
Driven with the cruise control on will get 20+ mpg for me. Its a GDI design, stay out of the boost. At the same time, I can empty the gas tank in minutes if I want to,
BIG FUN!

I plan on putting 265 tires on it and will do great on the hwy. My loads take up space but not weight.

Speaking of tires, I am going a different direction, I noticed the run a 65 series, well I will put a 75 on and slightly lower the rpms, and Theirs about 3" of clearance on the front between the tire and body, which is more than enough, 10MM = 3/8" which should knock off another 100 RPM

Which tires are you focused on?
How much of a speedo/odo change will they make vs stock?
Is there a way to recalibrate the gauges?

I did something similar on my Ford Zetec-powered Westfalia, went from stock 185/R14 to Nokian Van Cargo 195/75/16, increased diameter by 6%, hence lowered RPMs at a given speed by that amount. Noticeably quieter, more stable, no change to MPG that I can detect. I have a Scangauge, which allows me to program the difference to get accurate speed and mileage figures. Also increased road clearance by almost an inch.

Still looking to build an RV next year with a 130WB, medium roof. Like the fact that the ecoboost lets me choose a 3.31 rear axle, the 3.7 is limited to 3.73 or 4.10.

Thanks for the Eco boost info! I'm leaning towards that engine choice.

Question: Was that 16mpg pure highway, or highway along with some foot-into-it holy crap testing?

About 20 miles highway, and also a few times flooring it
If you mean me? no flooring at all. driven off a manifold pressure gage to stay out of the boost as much as possible. Setting the cruise control, then just playing with the radio.
Will make charts to see MPG @ 70, 75 and 80
Cross country numbers
It was at 5.5mpg when I was driving, so it can drink like a sailor

They might fit on the 4 wheels touching the ground but will not fit in the spare tire carrier on a 148" not extended. 30" max. in the carrier. I wanted to put 265 tires on like I have on my Sprinter so measured the carrier. The spare does not have a sending unit and it is painted black. I will buy the optional black wheels so I have 5 that match and rotate all 5 tires. I do that on the Sprinter so have warning light illuminated 4/5ths of the time. Never had tire pressure system before so do not need it now.

I'm in Buffalo, local dealer about 3 miles from my house, theirs 7 Ford dealerships within a 25 mile radious, only one Mercedes dealer
OK.
I thought I saw that you had signed up for the Cleveland tour event so I thought you were in the area and I wanted to know what dealer you found the eco-boost at.
Oh well, I'll just wait for the tour event to get my foot into one.>:D

Funny LarryPDX,

I also have a VW Westfalia and though i love it, ultimately its too small for traveling with all the outdoor gear we bring. Its my current daily driver though and super reliable. Cant wait to see how the transit plays out over the next few months.

I'm currently restoring a VW 78 CEII Westfalia, I realize its too small too, when I finish I'm may sell it and buy a promaster or a transit depending on the reviews of the diesels models. Pre 79 VW buses are now selling at a premium and quite sought after for rust free ones so don't give it away. Lots of europeans are buying them and shipping them back.

When you drive the Transit 3.2 diesel you will like it. After 2 Sprinters, it's a very refreshing change to drive a diesel that acts & runs like a gasser
