It's EZ to find Transit VIN Decoder, but haven't hit upon the traditional explanation of VIN codes seen in old shop manuals.

Dealer salesmen seem to struggle with their proprietary websites leaving me unsure even what basic body code is correct.

Is there a website that demystifies Transit VIN codes?

Want to build my own VIN up to serial number. Tired of searching Window Stickers.

Ford.com Extended Inventory Search hasn't produced a 100% match

This information is usually in the front pages of the specific model factory shop manual. You might find someone at a Ford dealership that can access their computer and pull it up from the online access.

See if this website will help you.

carlite.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/2015-Transit-VIN-Codes.pdf

This site gives you the identifiers for the first 3 VIN positions and the 5th thru 7th positions that gives you the Body code identifiers.

Let me know if this is what you are looking for. This will work for the 2015 model and it shows the codes for the DUAL SLIDING DOORS which we know was not available for 2015 except for the American Pickers van.

My contact at Ford in Dearborn just sent me this Ford site.

transitbodydecoder.com/TransitTool.aspx

One thing I like about this site is you can 'click' on the 'WAGON 'body style and see the seating capacity

Thanks, am very familiar with info in traditional paper factory shop manuals that decode each & every digit in VIN, but had heard they were no longer being printed. Can you confirm? Will ask dealer, but they've been fairly helpless so far. Fordtransitforum has been a much better resource.

The carlite & http://transitbodydecoder.com/TransitTool.aspx websites confirmed that K1Y is correct.

However neither addresses the rest of the VIN code. For instance engine code? Presume VIN would also ID if XLT or base?
