I swiped these instructions from another ford forum and am very grateful to them for posting this procedure.

First, you must have your VIN. If you enter the VIN and the numbers "30.11.0002" appear in the build date box, your Transit has not yet been built.

Here goes - For those wanting to get a copy of your window sticker, please use the handy tool here. Enter your VIN and you will be able to print out your Window Sticker if the vehicle has been built.

Once you get your VIN. it is on average about two weeks till your car is built give or take any shortages or limited parts for certain options..

FordETIS look up
Here you can see the Factory Build date once your car is scheduled (the date will look wonky till then) and what your car has for options (note there is a delay from the time your car is built to the time the info appears of a few days)

That is unless your vehicle is a Transit.
We've been getting VINs weeks before build weeks have been even hinted at, and those have been tending to be 6-8 weeks out.
So at best 8-10 weeks from VIN to build.
Delivery is a whole 'nother thing.

Here is a Transit VIN you can put into the FordETIS system to see the information you get on the production.

Use VIN 1FTSW2CM5FKA13907 and this will show you all the information that prints out on your build. You can go to the dealer site 5starfordonline.com and see the window sticker for this van. It has $4400 worth of options on this van

Are there any privacy/security issues with posting your VIN for the entire world to see, perhaps?

Ordered my Transit on 11/12/15 and finally got my VIN last week. When I plugged it into the FordETIS website I get this....

Transit V363, 3.5L V6 GTDI VIN Number: 1FTYR3XXXXXXXXXXX
Registration information for your currently selected Vehicle: First Registration Date:Registration Number:Registration Date:Registration Country:Modified Date: Historic Registration Dates:Registration Number:Registration Date:Registration Country:Modified Date:
Primary Features Build Date: 30.11.0002Vehicle Line: Transit V363Engine: 3.5L V6 GTDITransmission: 6 Speed Automatic Trans (6R80)

Minor Features

  • Kansas City Plant Build
  • 3.5L V6 GTDI
  • 6 Speed Automatic Trans (6R80)
  • Transit V363

Not a very complete build list at all.

Does "Build Date: 30.11.0002" mean that it was built on 11/30?

My sales rep says that this was the beginning of the build process and can't tell me any more than what Ford is telling him, that my vehicle will be delivered in mid-Feb.

That is NOT a build date. That is a plugged number. You will get a date with day, month and 4 digit year. You will only get a date when the build is started and the complete details when the Transit is complete and passes quality control.

You will get the WINDOW STICKER when the build date is scheduled and the dealer is billed for the vehicle. About 7 to 10 days later, you will get the complete ETIS report.

if you are using any type of google based service on your phone or computer, or using any webbased email such as gmail, then I'd be more concerned about this.

I really don't think too many people will concern themselves with a publicly posted VIN....

I'm hoping someone steals the payments for my VIN. They can have the vin# and the info as long as I have the van.
Pretty sure I can go to the dealer web site and look up all the available Transits and get the window sticker/vin for each one. Not worried about it at all.

FYI Rick, there are a couple of older threads which contain lots of information on the process of getting your VIN, window sticker, Production Start date, delivery date, etc.:

http://www.fordtransitusaforum.com/dealers-purchases-orders/3594-tracking-build-dates.html

http://www.fordtransitusaforum.com/...-window-sticker-tracking-build-dates-vin.html

In the following sub-forum list of threads, there are other relevant threads which do not appear in the "Recent Discussions" box to the right. --------------- >>

Did you all see the story on the National news this week about the new scam for making money, by thieves cloning the vins of vehicles? They would get the number and then steal one of the same model & year etc. Owners would try to sell or trade in their vehicle and find that their vehicle has a long list of accidents, reported in other states. Leaving them with no value / equity. Or the vehicle they bought from someone else, even from a reputable dealer, was a stolen vehicle with a "clean" cloned vin. Vehicle impounded by police and they were left with nothing. Think there is enough info posted here that when you ad your vin,, you'd be looking for trouble. Just saying.

Had this discussion on the BOSS 302 site where VINs for high value mustangs are posted all the time. Let's be real here, they steal a car then go find a vin to match it. I'm at work now, I can go outside right now and read the VIN number through the windsheild on anyone of the 500 to 600 cars parked in the lot.

Unless your saying that you have black tape over the VIN's of all your cars, posting a VIN means nothing.

Epps,
You're right it means absolutely nothing other than the chance someone trolling through a lot looking at vins might cause some suspicions of others, who might report it, when now they can sit at their computer and see a 2015 Transit 250 MR, 148, white, in KY. And in CA they pick up the same vehicle and change the vin to the one showing on the forum. Forge the paperwork and register it in yet another state and have a title. Unfortunately the states don't verify if the KY vehicle was actually sold.

Evidently it is a lot more profitable and easier having the vin first and stealing the car to match, now days, than the way it use to be done. Insurance companies don't back track a vehicle ownership before paying a claim on a legally registered vehicle. But a dealer or a private party won't take a chance on a vehicle that lists multiple accidents even if you're vehicle has never been in one.

Why risk becoming a victim, what does posting your vin gain you?

USNC Vet if they want to clone a vin all they have to do is a search For the similar vehicle through the ford dealerships websites and get the vin there it would be a **** of a lot easier and quicker than seeing if the vin I posted matched the close enough to what they stole.
