Trying to decide if the vinyl floor is the way to go for the cargo area. It looks better but:
I may install a 2nd row seat in the future and it will make it more difficult.

I will be hauling video gear and the vinyl floor will give a bit of extra protection.
Without it the painted floor will eventually get scratched up and look bad.

Thoughts?

I'm selling my vinyl floor which is barely used if you feel like visiting San Diego.

I have a rubber floor in my van. When ordering, the little bit extra for interior panels and rubber in the back is pretty minor. I found the rubber floor to be decent. I don't think it is very thick but I cannot a reason to order or get one without the floor, unless you are making a camper and want carpet.

Hi,
We used sheet Vinyl without gluing down to the subfloor.

The flooring dealer recommended this approach as they have had trouble with RV's with glued down floors developing cracks from the temperature changes, but it also makes it easy to remove the floor. Has worked fine for the 2 years its been in.

Right after purchasing my transit I went to the local grange store and purchased 3-4 x 6 horse stall mats. They are 1" thick, heavy as snot, and really quiet down the road noise. Took me most of the day to jigsaw the mats to fit the floor, and I had to lay 1/4" wood strips between the ribs to keep the mats flat but they are working great.

nearly six years of use and the stock rubber/vinyl flooring in our chevy cargo van (converted) looks like new after a quick soap/water cleanup. We are still pondering the possibilities of Van Version 2.0 and Transit is on the top of the list. If we go that way I would do what I could to get the stock vinyl flooring in our rig.

Also on comfort and clean-ability? We utilize a 30" x 60" carpet called a "Miracle Door Mat" (example amazon link) at night over our stock flooring for comfort in our bare feet. Don't let the high price scare you away...IF you happen to be a Costco Member and they have their once or twice a year road show in your area the price is significantly lower. We have several of the mats and use them daily. If they get soiled we hose them off and set them out in the sun, or take them to a laundromat after a rinse at home.

I think I'd go with no floor and add my own. Filler between the ribs, and probably a click-lock (pergo type) floor for cost and durability. When I checked out the Transits, the carpet was the cheapest most awful material available, worse than $10 a roll "automotive carpet" found at hardware stores. And the "rubber" had some kind of cushioning under it, so that any heavy thing in there would tear right through it if moved.

If a rubber floor is desired, a 7x17' roll of diamond plate 1/4" thick material is about $150.
