I don't, just ran the hot water line to my shower, added the 3 way valve then the shower head. The outlet of the 3 way is just a line back to my water tank. Turn the valve to recycle, and hot water heater starts. I can feel the hot water on the pipe just before the valve, when its hot, turn the valve to the shower head and shower. I navy shower, so repeat that everytime I turn the water back on to avoid that slug of cold water you get with on demand heater. Works really well for me

Sorry, I haven't been on in a while. Valve is mounted to the shower pipe (where your shower head goes), then the shower head to that valve. Its a simple 3 way valve meant for using a shower head or hand wand. Local home supply stores will carry them. So my shower head is about 1 1/2" further out from the wall than a normal setup.
Hope that makes sense

Well I haven't had it in use for very long in below freezing conditions, as I tend to leave my cold climate and go to where its warmer. Van stays warm while I'm doing so and I winterize when I get back home. The anti freeze protection definitely kicks in as I had to pull my fuse to it to stop it from running while I was using the van during hunting season, with no water as I didn't need it at my buddies camp. I can't really comment on longterm below freezing use.
