Took the U5X 2022 15pass AWD 350HD (Ecoboost) on a 500 mile road trip this weekend.

Two odd things occurred that have also happened previously but less frequently:

1) After starting the engine, on several occasions the Drive Modes are grayed out and therefore one cannot make a selection. Assuming it's running in standard/normal mode because I'm already moving.

2) Main Sync4 screen goes black, then reboots into start-up screen during driving. Obviously, the system is crashing and rebooting or somehow getting its power disconnected.

Is anyone else seeing these issues in their Sync 4 systems?

Actually I had it happen one time. I just kind of expect this type of thing to happen since its no different in my experience as a laptop or other sophisticated electronics I have owned. Lockup, freeze or reboot ......

Its happened a few times before, but never twice in one trip... seems like something is not quite right. Could be the recent firmware update...fix 5 things, break two other things

yes twice in the first 1000. Trip home from kc. Not since. Now at 4000. Some one else Had a similar on a 21. Turned out to be a connector not pushed together behind the Radio. Notable because to find it the dealer took the whole dash out requiring the front doors to be removed.

Surprised they didn't pull the engine and transmission too 🤣

There is a write up about the 21 on this forum with pictures. I applaud the dealer for not blowing the customer off. Taking off the doors might have been over the top though.

I only know of the safety recall Ford # 22S65 NHTSA#22v791 for 2022 models and maybe early 2023. It deals with sync 4 vehicles that have issues with function of the HVAC controls. The repair is an update to software in the remote climate control module. ( all of this info was sent to potentially affected owners).

What TSB Michael is referring to, I have no knowledge of. But there could be one I haven't found. So maybe he has the number.

I doubt the 22s65 will fix the reboot issue the op was describing. The event I encountered did cause the screen to blank. It has not happened again . I have not had any symptoms with my hvac control nor have I had the 22s65 procedure completed.

It was just me thinking out loud, I read it somewhere but it is to much of a pain to search for that link again.
I am not confusing it with something else, I remember it was for sync 4.
Of course it may have been a different model year, Which years have sync 4?

I read through the F150 Forum and there are a number of people who have the same issue with the Sync 4 with it rebooting during driving. No one had an answer, some suggested that we check our fuse boxes...apparently, not all of the fuses are seated properly and that obviously could cause a range of electrical gremlins. That said I feel it is more likely software related since it's not happening when I hit a bump in the road.

There is a TSB about it, Software update.
i just did the update as part of the HVAC recall, my van was in the shop for 4 days. Somewhere along the way there was a software issue that stopped a couple modules from communicating with each other and spitting errors, some sensors not working etc. I think the final solution was they re-built the system (OS?) back to factory config and started layering on updates from there. Day 4's efforts thankfully worked, but there were some very concerning thoughts running through my head in the interim. Ahh technology

That is seriously jacked up. I have an appointment to drop mine off for that update and will prob cancel, my trust in the local dealer network is nonexistent. Took six weeks to get that appointment, and another local dealer quoted 6 months just to get me in for the same update. No thanks. Feels like the dealers are pissed at Ford and are using the customers to create friction with Ford. YMMV

I am having the same issue with my 2022 Transit 150. But it is happening more frequently now and the techs at the dealership are clueless. It is really frustrating and I don't know what to do.
