I spoke with an aftermarket audio installer the other day in regards to upgrading the factory sync 3 system in my 2016 XLT wagon. He told me the overall cost could depend on whether or not I had the factory amp or the standard head. I wasn't aware that there was a "factory" amp. Can anyone shine some light on this? He said if there was an (I'm assuming outboard) amp, then adding a new power amp and speakers would be extremely costly.
Any thoughts?
Thanks! Tony G

i have been reading this forum for 3 years and no one has mentioned an separate factory amp before, but that does not mean it is not there because the Transit is so new that most people have never saw the wiring diagrams.

everyone here that has wanted to upgrade their factory stereo's, apart from just replacing the speakers, has gone with aftermarket stereo's.

bro, what is your aim? factory system is quite usable and sounds good to my hear loss afflicted ears ;-)

most new car have a bass booster and seperate sub for low end so you can have ultrasonic message therapy as your drive.

I am almost certain there is not a factory amp. There is the touchscreen and right behind the"brain box" (apic, I think it's called) which is separate but connected. There is a nice system block diagram in the factory service manual.
