I have a Transit Cargo arriving next month and in preparation I'm trying to figure out the best way to add a removable two person bench seat when we want to have additional passengers. My plan is to use L-tracks on the floor for the front of the van so we can have a modular system (i.e removable galley, etc). I would like to use something like the Unwin Seat Lockers but they say they're not compatible with transit seats (which I'd like to use as they're readily available). The Unwin system looks ideal because they can be installed Has anyone gone this route? If so, which seats did you use, did you need to find a base? If you went with Transit seats, how did you instal them?

I have a stack of Ford seats. After looking closely at them and considering the custom welding stuff that was done for the seats in our last van, I suspect you could reliably replace the bottom "riser" parts with solid steel or aluminum and either weld or bolt angles on the bottom - thus enabling them to work with any mounting you prefer. I tend to have more confidence in super-high-rated bolts holding thick plates of steel together than most welds; so I prefer that premise.

Clearly, this post is about to get hammered by suggestions of imminent death for anyone using these seats. But many of those same posters are confident that adding the original Ford mounting brackets to some other home-built mount under the van is somehow superior. (Where's that eye-roll emoji... )

So... your risk. As always. But that's the route I'm taking.

When you get a bench seat, how can you be sure that the legs will align with the L-track or the seat rails that are bolted to the floor?

Probably I guess the legs on the bench can be shifted left and right - is that correct?

Legs on the seats cannot be moved. They can be taken OFF, but they cannot be repositioned.

The legs match up with the valleys on the floor ribs. Measure and choose which valleys to install the L track in.

I called Titan Diykits, the retailer of the OP's bench seats. They asserted that the legs on their product are adjustable - that they can be shifted left and right to fit already-installed Ltrack.

I suppose some other seat brands are not adjustable. As I learn more I'll post here. Would be great to hear from anyone with hands-on experience!

andyl; I was talking about the factory seats. Aftermarket seats are probably much better in regards to adaptability.

How did you attach the L Track to the floor? My plan (have not removed the factory floor from my passenger van so not sure), was to install a steal plate to the same attachment points as the factory seat brackets then install the L Track directly to the the plate.

This what I will be using as my "bones" for my second seat. Will have to be taken to upholstery shop, so can match what you have. Made for older VW vans. I plan on actually having storage underneath also. Should be able to have brackets for L track fairly easy, I'm going with unistrut.
