Well. the day is near. The local dealer finally recieved a T3500, EB, EXT, TALL. I'll be picking it up soon. It already has the cheapo cladding on the interior walls in the cargo area, which will be used for templates for wooden replacements that I will use for the buildout to a camper. There are also a bunch of D-rings mounted to the floor, but I need to put several smaller ones around the van interior to secure a lot of stuff while traveling cross country, and a few up high in the front and rear of the cargo area.

Does anyone know of a source for a high quality RIV NUT (or the equivalent) tool. I'm thinking that I will use 8 X 1.25 bolts to mount stuff with, since that is the size that is already in the van, IIRC. McMaster-Carr has some, but I don't know if there are any other sources.

Thanks in advance.

ultrane,

Copied your post over to the thread "Parts Needed / Available " in hopes more will see it when looking for items to upgrade their Transit or having parts from theirs they are willing to part with and for those having experience in offering possible solutions to items needed.

I ordered these from Jay-Cee
Steel Plusnuts - Pre-Bulbed 1/4-20 .280 GRIP

I selected 1/4-20 because the hole size matches the existing holes in the van almost exactly to the Plusnut spec ( i have to push the nuts into the holes with a hard thump, but they go right in.)

There are several different models for different hole sizes and grip depths so it took me a bit of study on this page to select the one that best matched my needs.
Rivet Nuts/ Threaded Inserts | Steel Plusnuts Prebulbed | Buy Rivets | Rivet tools - Rivet Nuts & Other Specialty Fasteners

Here is the tool I purchased :
Rivnut Hand Tools | Cardinal Components Inc. | Rivnuts | Tools | Parts | Menomonee Falls, WI

works well, lube per instructions, no problems.

I'm using 1/4 - 20 rivnuts in all the small round holes that already exist and bought an inexpensive rivnut tool at Harbor Freight Tools. It works just fine, and since I'm only doing this one van, I don't need to worry about longevity.

I bought this one from Amazon

It's worked really well for my build. Good Luck Todd
