I am assuming that since the Shurflo instruction make no reference to teflon tape or pipe dope, the pump fittings do not need either to seal properly. Can anyone confirm this?

Same. No tape or dope or anything. They seem to seal quite well - but only on the appropriate pump or filter. It seems the angle of the "cup" on the male side makes a great seal. I tried using them for other stuff and it was not so successful.

No, I'm talking about the fitting to pump connection, not the hose to the fitting.

I like those connections. Very simple and almost never leak just being hand tight with no tape or thread compound.

No tape or paste on those or they will leak. If they were simple NPT thread, then tape or paste would be needed as NPT threads are jam tight threads. Those swivel fittings are NPT but it's not the threads that seal it. They have an inner face of the white part that's required to seat against the pump to be water tight.

Quick disconnect connectors, The thump screws. It is like a garden hose, you do not put anything on them.
