Remote start with Securilock

I need to figure out why when my van is remote started, the engine shuts off the moment I open the drivers door to get in and drive it. I think it's a function of the security system, but it seems so bone-headed. My GM car will remote start, only when the doors are locked, and then when I unlock the vehicle, get in, and insert the key, I'm good to go. The thing doesn't shut off.

I have the diesel engine, and while I know not to idle it for extended periods, I do believe in a few minutes, maybe 10, of idling on winter mornings, to get the chill out of all the fluids and the air in the cab.

So is there anyone else with remote start, and the Securilock, passive, blah blah blah alarm system that has overcome this peculiar behaviour?

I have remote start without any security options and it does the same thing.
Well that's just dumb... I'm going to fiddle with starting it with the doors unlocked, and things like that. Working on a two day hang over and don't have much capacity for anything else.
Does the transit come with remote start from the factory with the premium package?
Transitplumber- No it's optional, Code # 68B Remote Start.
Mornings have gotten chilly. Not really chilly, but 5 minute pre start chilly. Noticed that the rear and sliding doors can be opened without the engine shutting down, but driver and passenger doors still do it. Dumb.

Yeah that's pretty ridiculous. My wife's Jeep has remote start and you can't get it out of park until after you have the fob inside the vehicle and press the start button. It's such an awesome feature to be able to have the heated seat and steering wheel warm or the a/c blasting when you get in the vehicle.

The best option that Jeep has in my opinion is auto high beams. There's a small camera in front of the rear view mirror and if you have your high beams on it switches them to low beams as soon as it sees a taillight or headlight. Once the taillight or headlight is out of view it immediately switches your high beams back on.

Carchaeology: 1952 Oldsmobile and the First Headlight Dimmer

Along with Cadillac, Oldsmobile introduced the idea of an automatic headlight dimmer back in the early 50s, when GM called it the Autronic Eye.

Oldsmobile might be history now, but back in 1952 the company* made history along with Cadillac* when the brands offered GM's Autronic Eye, the first automatic headlight-dimming system. When the phototube mounted on the dashboard detected approaching headlights, it would automatically switch the car's beams to low until the other lane was clear.

Despite reportedly being overly sensitive and unreliable, the Autronic Eye evolved, and versions spread to other GM brands and continued in Cadillacs until the 1988 model year. The Eye also made its way into GM's fantastic fleet of stylized Futurliners. Part of the General's rolling technology showcase in the early 1950s called the Parade of Progress, these 33-foot behemoths moved from town to town converting into stages and exhibition areas, thanks to 16-foot foldable side panels, a retractable lighting tower, and a public address system.

Ironically for vehicles showing off revolutionary technologies, the Futurliners had terrible brakes and had to stay 300 feet behind other vehicles. Of the 12 built, two remain unaccounted for. Know what that means? There's still hope for making the ultimate taco truck. Who's in?

I found a YouTube video that fixes the engine kill when the doors are opened feature. I tried it on my 2016 transit and it works! Just YouTube -(ford keyless remote car starter fix) and follow the instructions it is very easy to change. Sorry I don't know how to show this as a link.

Your link works fine in the quote above. The video sorta reminds me of when I learned how to program a PDP 8 with toggle switches.

While I'm not advocating reprogramming a computer that we really don't understand, here's a link to a related Ford document:
http://www.fordservicecontent.com/ford_content/catalog/accessory_files/Ford%20Programming%20Instructions.pdf

Here's another. The programming guide starts on page 18.
GEN-2 POWERCODE INSTALLATION & TECHNICAL REFERENCE MANUAL

I think that both of these documents are pretty old. Maybe someone can find newer versions.

Where was the service button? I'm looking on my van and can't seem to find it.
It is just above and to the left of the brake pedal. It took me a couple of minutes to find it also.
Success! This is the best thing that's happened to me this year, so far.
Quick tip: If you pull the trim panel under the steering wheel, it's a bunch easier to get to the button. My button was covered in electrical tape too, had to cut the top to get at the button.

Worked like a charm! Man what a nice change. Thanks for the suggestion of pulling the trim off. That helped a lot. Took 5 minutes from start to finish.
a little off topic but our transit didn't come with a remote start from the factory, so we opted to get the ford one installed - get the bidirectional model if you do though worth the extra money. It's nice because it does not turn off when you open the door to get in, as long as you put the key in the ignition and turn it to accessories before you press the brake pedal it will stay running and off you go. It also has a nice feature for making quick stops when you want to leave it running but take the keys with you, press and hold the remote start for 3 seconds and you can take the keys out and it will stay running, keyless entry still works too.

Also has a nice vehicle finder feature that honks the horn 5 times and flashes the lights when you tap it.

I have a feeling that your installer was savvy enough to disable the shut down "feature" of your remote start.

What did this cost you?
Has anyone had luck changing the remote start configuration so it doesn't shut off theengine when you open the door. There are directions on YouTube to remedy this but I have not been able to on the transit.
I have the round 1 button remote start installed by the dealer and it doesn't kill the engine with the doors open.
