In the past month I've tried to buy 2 vans and as I was closing the deal I was told there's a recall on the van and they can't sell it to me. The first was a low roof and the side curtain airbag shut me down. I then started looking at medium roof vans. CrewVanMan helped me find a nice one down in VA. I called the dealer and hashed out a price. As I was getting ready to have my credit union cut a check, then the dealer called to tell me he couldn't sell me the van because of the seat belt recall.
WTF Ford, get your act together. I hope a Ford engineer or two from the Transit wagon team was fired over this disaster. This is truly pathetic.

Wow...you're the first I've heard who couldn't buy one because of the seatbelt recall. I'm not aware of an stop sale order that came with that, perhaps your salesman was mistaken?

My purchase is on hold because of the side airbag recall. We need the van to have a wheelchair lift installed for my daughter, and the low roof is a must to fit into hospital parking garages. I'd really love to move to a mid-roof for the extra room and lack of recall hassle, but that's just not an option.

I got no love from Ford. They will not release the van for purchase. When I inquired about expediting the shipment of new seatbelts to this particular dealer so I could complete the purchase, they said no. They said the replacement seatbelts aren't even available yet, they have nothing to ship.

You're the first I've heard of someone not being able to buy a van because of the seatbelt recall. AFAIK there's a difference between a recall and a stop-sale order. There's a stop-sale order for vans affected by the airbag recall, but I've not heard of one for the seatbelts. Thinking your dealer is misinformed, try asking another with a mid-roof van.

We're a go for launch. :)

Got a call from the dealer, they apparently figured out that they could sell the van to me as long as I sign something acknowledging the open recall. It's a used van, and Federal law prevents the sale of a new van under a stop-sale order. So if you're looking new you're probably out of luck for the low-roof model.

Good news, I found a van!!! Its a post- recall production 350 XLT wagon. Paying more then I wanted to but so be it. Im supposed to be driving my 6 kids to Disney it 12 day, up till now I had no way to drive them there.
I was getting desperate. My wife actually went and test drove a Nissan NV yesterday. I hate-hate-hate those ugly things, but we had to buy something to transport our kids in. Thank God we found a Ford.

Thinksnow,

Congratulations !
Should be a great break-in drive for you. When you get back you will know which seats you want to remove, for more leg room. Have a great trip.

Congrats on the acquisition :)

I think Disney has the highest concentration of Transit Wagons in the country, they are very popular for tourist families to rent, as well as popular shuttle vehicles.

We just got home from there (we live 25mins away) and there seem to be fewer rentals on the road since they've pulled many from their fleets until the airbag/seat belt issues are resolved.

Thats one the reasons I want to buy white or silver, don't want to look like a rental vehicle. The one Im buying is metallic gray. I actually plan on putting on after market rims to set mine apart even more.

Picked up ours today with the recalled airbags. I ain't skeered!

I don't mind the rental look though. First up is going to be a cabin air filter, followed by a bluetooth-enabled head unit the minute Metra releases a dash kit for it.

Let us know what rims you get! I have a 150 LR in the same color ("magnetic"). We also live in the Orlando area, but a little east - lots of white ones but not many in our color. If it doesn't have privacy glass (which I imagine it does), tint will make an enormous difference. Our dealer left our's off the order, so we had to get it tinted (which is better in some ways I guess). Congrats on the ride! We almost went and got a Nissan NV, and now we are very glad we didn't.

Our van doesn't have tint, but I will be adding it, I already found a local shop. As of now these are the rims I want to put on. I think they will look sharp with the magnetic paint.

Since I live in the northeast Im going put four snowtires on the factory rims and throw them on the van mid December thru mid march.

Maybe that explains some weirdness I had. I tried to buy two vans last week but the dealers were stalling but would not say why. I wasn't sure what the heck was going on.

I finally bought a post-recall one, loaded rather than the barebones I was looking for, in Nevada. I was able to fly there and buy it in less time than I had spent screwing around with the other dealers. I mentioned my weird experiences and they mentioned the recall.
