Due out 7/10. $359.99. Vertical field of view will be 120º they tell me. Good to see from bumper to horizon.

What if you don't have the upfit switches? I was just going to use it in reverse.

The future isn't what it use to be.
robandmandie442,

Just hook your power up to the back-up lights.

Semper Fi
It's been discussed before, but it depends on how much current the camera draws, as to whether or not doing that will throw some codes in the computer.

I wonder where the factory back up camera is hooked up to the OEM wiring harness.

Does anyone know? Or does anyone have a wiring diagram?
Sending mine back. The 170º angle is too wide for what I want to do, use it as a rear view mirror. Getting the 3rd brake light out is stupid simple though. If you look at the lower edge you should be able to see the three bottom clips through the lens. There is one in the middle and one about 2" in from each "corner." Slide something between the light and the body starting at one of the sides and work across. Click, click, click and it's out.

I searched the wiring diagrams and never really got an answer. There is an image processing module located in the right rear corner of the van. Might go there.

Sorry slow to reply...
I have to look which wire, but it IS in the Brown pack under the dash:

REVERSE LIGHT - GREEN/BROWN
LOCATION
BCM/DASH FUSE BOX
BROWN 46 PIN PLUG B
PIN 44
So find the bcm/fuse box and look for the brown plug connector with 46 pins. the 44th pin will be green with a brown stripe. Use your DMM to test.

The mirror from ford looks like it's the right part but i'm not sure how to get it attached. Does anyone have any insight? Not sure if it's supposed to just pop on there with some force or what. Here are some photos:

From the manual:

edit: If that works, post up the part number please.

Question about the replacement rear high mount brake light-

On the dually vans the OEM high mount brake light also incorporates 3 clearance lights required by law since the van is over 80" wide- for all I know all Transits may have this- but in the dually case it is required by law, not just something nice to have.

So does this replacement incorporate this or is it a high mount brake light only without the running lights? Seems the camera would block the center clearance lamp (LED).
From the manual:

edit: If that works, post up the part number please.

Thanks. Which manual is this from? Don't see anything like that in the BEMM or the owners manual. That diagram shows several tabs on the mirror mount that don't exist on the part I was inspecting. Perhaps I need to remove the 3 screws holding the metal piece on.
The service manual on disc or rent from Helm.
I ordered ours as a review mirror replacement but they shipped the clip on monitor. So they then sent the mirror replacement. But it does not seem to be compatible with the factor Ford mount :(
The service manual on disc or rent from Helm.
I tried to rent a one month service manual yesterday from Helm-
could not get it to work- after entering all the info including credit card when I hit submit or purchase, whatever it said, it just cycled back to the same thing.
Being the weekend I could get no help from them...

So how is the manual on disc? Anyone buy it and was it worth it?
Part number or how to order the service manual on a disc would be appreciated. Cost?
It is on Helminc.com.

IIRC it was $177.

In the past I've bought genuine Ford/Helm Service DVDs on ebay that are apparently a little out of date- I think that may be an added income stream for some of the mechanics- the dealership gives them a new one and they sell the old one..:D

This link might work. $177 for the CD. Is it worth it? Probably not. Unless you have a pressing need, better to wait for Haynes or similar to produce one, assuming those are still worth it. I needed to install SVG viewer to see the wiring diagrams. Might be a workaround but I haven't contacted Helm to see what it is. The information is incomplete and hard to find. One tip is to copy the index into a searchable document. Not completely Helm's fault. They just package what Ford gives them. Others have posted that a search of ebay will produce sources selling "obsolete" CD's with the entire Ford line-up for less $.
Fair warning. I can't speak to product quality on the RVS stuff as I sent mine back (needed a different configuration) and haven't yet received the replacement. It seemed like high end stuff though. Customer service is another issue entirely. They are friendly enough, but seem to all be brain dead. ANY communication you have with them needs to be repeated in writing and then reconfirmed verbally and in writing with the expectation they will still get it wrong if you deviate even slightly from their routine. Also, do not trust anything like a specification they tell you unless you can find it confirmed in print somewhere. Wow. I have never, even this day and age of PC and social promotion, encountered such abject incompetence. Real Twilight Zone level stuff.
Hmmm....I got mine in yesterday- bought it through Amazon and they have been fantastic when I've had to return something.
I opted for the 7" monitor which I placed dead center in that scooped out part of the dash- it came with a funny star shaped plate with that 3m VHB tape on it, I peeled off just a little of the VHB because I didn't want the hassle of trying to get it loose later if I needed to.

I did not buy the stop light replacement one- got a regular camera which I mounted below the high stoplight (not in my case- mine is a clearance light).
I mounted it with nylon screws in case if it ever caught a limb or something maybe the screws will break and save the really thin Ford sheetmetal up there.

BTW if Amazon has the one you want- it is significantly lower priced than direct.
[rant] And you get to deal with Amazon. No hassle returns, better prices like you said. Probably faster, free shipping too, especially if you have Prime. I tried to exchange the original order with RVS and they initially denied it, then had to go through management before they figured out the real original order date. As part of the return process, I asked verbally once and in writing twice to get 16' vs standard 60' cables on the replacement unit. They were kind enough to call me to acknowledge they had received the return and were shipping the replacement. Friendly, like I said. Knowing from extensive experience just how freakin idiotic they are, I confirmed, again, the need for the 16' cables. The girl had to run off to shipping and try to fix their mistake (yup, the cable change never made it to the order) before it went out. Watch your back with those clowns. Dunno as you could get the different cables via Amazon though. I think they can be worked with, so long as you never ask a product question, trust nothing they say, and never assume they are paying attention to any written or verbal instructions. They are pathetic to the point I don't get mad at them, I just feel sympathy. [/rant]
