Nice! I'm definitely gonna buy this one once it's available. Hopefully I can find a good place to mount the screen. I don't have a rear view mirror so maybe I can put it there.. It's a bit of an awkward surface though.

Also curious how to run the wires. I'm hoping there's an easy enough route.

Very easy. There are designated ground points near the rear doors and others have successfully powered a camera off the back-up light circuit, though that is a risky move in a can bus ride and you lose the ability to use it as a rear view mirror. Seems like a poor option. I have the accessory switches so for me it's a no brainer. If you have to source an ignition trigger, there is one under the driver's seat. I don't know if it's positive or ground, but it's good for 10A per the BEMM. There is an engine running ground signal in the same connector, but why force yourself to start the van to peek behind it? Getting wire to the rear view mirror area looks like slam dunk. If you really OCD the job it might take three hours to do the complete install.

Edit: Found the spec for the ignition trigger.

Ignition
Pin 6 - Ignition signal is protected by a 10A fuse. It
is +12V active at ignition positions: Accessory (1)
and Run (2). It is not active at Ignition OFF (0) or
Crank (3). Whilst it can drive equipment directly it
is recommended to use this feed to control a
converter fitted relay, especially for high current
applications.

Rearview Safety. That's the kit price with a monitor that clips on the rear view mirror. I suspect you can buy the camera separately for $175 and get the same monitor on ebay/amazon for about $35. The sexy part is the camera that replaces the third brake light.

Did you order the "mirror replacement" display? I also have no rear view mirror and am about to place my order. Adding the mirror so i can use the mirror replacement display sounds like an easy way to go. Any idea on what all would be needed/involved in installing the mirror?

Just a mounting "button."

Ask Rear View to add it to your order.

I am OCD and removed most everything to run wiring...

That was my thinking. I can get a mirror and mount at any auto parts store. 5 minute job, looks factory. Just pull the mirror plug out of the factory windshield goiter, temp mount the mirror with sticky tape, when you're satisfied with the position, peel off the goiter and permanent mount it. Now you can easily position the monitor.

Edit: If you don't have the goiter (loxmyth doesn't) it's even easier.

Oh I didn't even realize mirrors were universal like that. I was expecting to have to order the ford mirror. So you'll just mount the mirror onto the goiter and then add the clip on display to the mirror?

loxmyth's setup looks great.. unfortunately I do have the goiter though. Is it not removable?

Another thought: Instead of mounting a mirror to the goiter (and then clipping the display onto that) couldn't we take the mounting "button" from rear view and attach that to the goiter instead?

You have to glue the mirror button to the glass. The goiter is just a flimsy plastic shroud. The plastic in the Transit is oily. Adhesive solutions will make you sad.
Hmm is there a special way to peel off the goiter? Does the mirror plug have to come out first? Seems like either of them are about to break when I pry on them hard enough.

The plug pops out easily enough. There is a write-up on here about removing the goiter...

"The housing comes off in two pieces. Left side and right side. You should see a seam right down the middle. There are two clips that hold the seam together, and clips that hole the outside edges. The two halfs come apart by pulling them outward. You will need to press on one of the halfs at the the center line to get the clips to release." That from Hawkeng here: http://www.fordtransitusaforum.com/140322-post41.html

Not much, but that's really all there is to it. Graphically:

Thanks! I was able to get it off. I have some sort of electronics in there so I see why it wouldn't be able to be removed permanently. I don't think I have the lane keeping feature or auto wipers so i'm not sure what it is.
So the next step is gluing the cheapie mirror I bought? I should probably go look at a transit with a stock mirror so I can see what it's supposed to look like. I'm feeling pretty clueless :)
I appreciate all the help!

Here's what i'm working with:
