Can someone who has their Transit, having the radio system 58Y, post a picture of the dash with the system in it?

Trying to figure if there is someplace above the system and below the 4 inch screen, to attach a bracket that would fold forward 90 degrees? I want to put a 7 or 9 inch screen there. When not in use want to fold it forward so it doesn't block the 4 inch factory screen.

Any ideas, thoughts, especially those of you who know how to modify equipment.

Thanks for the response and for the picture ultain.

Looks like there might be an area above the cd slot to attach a bracket. Does it look like that to you?

Anyone know if there are any attachment points under that plastic, or would it better to come up from the area where the usb and power connector, above the center cup holder console, is?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thinking of putting the screen for the 3 camera system there. (always on rear, and 2 side cameras). Would be out of the way and not obstruct any outside view, if I can figure a way to mount it.

That's a decent opportunity to deploy 3M VHB. Might need to swap it out occasionally as it's going to be in the sun and possibly dealing with a leveraged load, but at least you won't need to poke any holes in the dash. You can always do that later when you're certain you have what you want.

Thank you. I had to go online and look that product up. Online rep said a 1-2 inch wide tape, 8-9 inches long should be more than enough to hold a bracket with the monitor in it. Advised basic rule of support is 4 sq in per pound. So she advised even when monitor is folded 90 degrees forward with no other support, the bracket shouldn't come loose from dash.

Thank you, this gives me an option if I can't find anything else.

Checked the Proclip site, then called. They don't have any type of holder that also folds forward 90 degrees. Just tilt and swivel of a few degrees.

I use hand controls to drive and don't have the ability or grip to do that with my right hand. Flipping monitor up or down with back of hand, might take a few trys each time

, but doable.

Hadn't seen something like that, good idea. Even if it doesn't work for my Transit, I'm going to get one for my power wheelchair. Thanks!

A combination of ideas from alarmist, yourself, star gazer and mogulman, might be the solution. I'm going to check with Tadi brothers when I get back today to see if they have a fold down mount. And then see how I can combine the products. Thanks.

Thanks for your links. I had completely forgotten to check wheelchair mobility attachments until your post yesterday (duh) :blush:. Checked more sights last night and have come up with a plan and a backup plan. Will see which one works best, when I get my wagon and can see which will work best.

Using a "gooseneck" mounting cable that can be attached further down, (in the area of the cup holders or plate with 12 v adapter) and then positioned in front of dash, rotated towards drivers seat.
No need to try and swipe it out of the way, then.

Back up plan is using and modifying the tadibrothers monitor mount, with alarmists idea, mounting it on the dash.

Really like the gooseneck cable idea, gives a lot more flexibility than just having it mounted in one place.

Using the gooseneck that is designed for the heavier iPad, for use on a wheelchair, that registers every surface defect as we roll along, should hopefully, have no problem with a lighter monitor screen.

Anyone replaced 58 Y radio ?

Reviving this Thread to see if anyone has replaced the 58 Y stereo and dash with something like the metra housing or something else?

If you have, can you attach a picture of the new dash mount and system? The original is in post #2 this Thread.

Does the 4" display get removed with the modification or does it remain?

Trying to figure what will be eliminated if upgraded.
