Just wondering if anyone has an opinion on which tire is best for mud/deep snow/ice for a 2015 Ford Transit? I am looking at the 225/75/16 size. I drive on paved roads, gravel roads, and new construction sites. I need a more aggressive tire than the stock tire that is on there.

You might be most interested in BFG All Terrain KO2.

Re tire size:

stock*is*235/65R16*
Get E load rated.
245/70R16 barely fits in the spare space
Biggest size without rubbing is
* * *Probably 245/75R16
* * *Or 255/70R16 (a tad bigger)

This info based on both stick vans and those with Quigley 4x4 2" lift, so your mileage may vary.

Thanks for the reply. I was looking at the BFG All Terrain KO2 but wondering if anyone has had them on their van and what their thoughts were. Or is there a better option.

I put on a set of 4 Firestone Winterforce 225/75/16 tires on my spare factory Alloy wheels. They are about 3/4" taller which raises the van up 3/8'. The taller tire looks great on the van giving it a taller tire profile & look.

We are having a snow/ice storm as I type. The ride home was awesome in 5-6'' of snow. I'm totally satisfied with the tires.

The van handled great front & rear in the snow. The ice was a different story and the only real way to drive on ice is with a set of studded tires. Unfortunately they are illegal in most States so you're stuck with the snow tires of your choice.

I looked around at 5-6 brands but some of them aren't up to the E Rating so I decided on the Firestones. The internet had the best price on them but Tires Plus honored the advertised web price. All in I paid $151.00 per tire mounted & balanced with life time tire rotation.

General Grabber Arctic LT studded tire for me

I elected for the E rated General Grabber Arctic LT studded tire for my ride. Sized at 225-75-R16, it looks real nice. I'm planning on 4 wheel drive from Quadvan, but John has his hands full, so this winter we're powering thru with only the rear wheels and traction control.
This winter, Montana has been mostly snow packed roads and the tire is performing very well. I've only seen difficulty when there is 3"+ of new snow on inclined packed snow surface. When this happens, I may have to go forward and back to pack a small trail, then it's all good.
The slightly larger tire yields about 2-3 mph difference from the odometer based on a free I phone app I downloaded. Haven't checked the speed with another vehicle or quality GPS unit.

I wanted a larger All Terrain tire that was winter specific but could be run all year. I decided on the Cooper 245/75/16 ATW's for for my PM. Not sure what size will fit on a Transit. I was in Mammoth for a week and it snowed almost every day and I never put chains on. These tires are awesome! It also doesn't hurt to have front wheel drive. Cheers

Now that you have had those for a while, how do you like them on the highway? Noise? Effect on fuel economy?

I am considering that exact tire / size for my transit w/ Quigley 4x4.
