Hello all! We are new to the Transit world and just purchased a 2015 350 XLT LR this past weekend. We are about to have our fifth child so the extra room was a must! We are about to go on a cross country trip in a month and a half and I was hoping to install an double din in-dash dvd player and link it to a couple of headrest monitors. I see that metra makes a dash kit for the transit. Will this dash kit work even though I have the separate back up camera display above the radio? I really need to find a solution and a way to make this happen so any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

From the info I have gathered so far on here, it seems the Metra dash kit will work but you will lose the separate display. Check out the thread titled "Double Din Dash Kit" under the tech section "Electronics, Audio, & Lighting". Some people are looking at the possibility of tapping into the video feed signal from the backup camera at the factory display and connecting it to the backup camera input of an aftermarket double din head unit. Unfortunately, nobody has tried it yet, and documented installs of a double din head unit in the Transit are nearly impossible to find. One reason is the Metra dash kit part# 99-5832G is currently on nationwide backorder. So there are several people waiting for the kit to become available to do their install. I'm waiting to order the kit but I am also waiting for my Transit. It's a company vehicle and I'm pretty sure the company ordered the vans with the base radio which would put the backup camera display in the rear view mirror so I don't think I'm going to have to deal with that situation.

your issue solved...

If you buy a lockpick for your indash Navigation, it will have multiple AV plugins. Bestbuy will install your lockpick for $100. The lockpick sold by coastaletech for $350 will solve your problem. as well you will be allowed to use your current indash monitor for the rearview camera and the headrest monitors as well. I have 5 kids and was able to solve the problem.

If you look at the thread that WHjeffs states you will find the answers, but here is the short of it. The dash kit is designed for systems without the upper display. There is no way at this moment to integrate this camera into an aftermarket head unit.

The lockpick system is designed to allow additional inputs into the exist Ford Mytouch System. It opens up the monitor to allow additional inputs to drive the screen.

Headrest monitors are tricky, especially for large vehicles. Only a few people get to watch the display. I typically recommend them for small compact cars, where a overhead monitor is in the drivers way. I did put 4 of them in Suburban, but still had kids fighting over being able to see the displays.

I recommend that you should put in overhead monitors. I installed 2 units, with the front unit having a DVD play and the rear being only a monitor. This allows the entire Van to watch movies.
