Preventing boneheaded mistakes of cross fueling?

I'm looking at a diesel Transit "C" for a motorhome. However, I will be bringing along gasoline powered items (namely a generator, perhaps some lawn tools.)

Right now, I'm used to gassers, where I stop to fuel, fill the truck, the tanks on the tools and generator, and then the fuel cans, all in one transaction.

What is a good way to help change this habit when a diesel vehicle is thrown into the mix? I know it sounds dumb, but this year, I've seen two diesel rigs (Sprinter based motorhomes) killed by people accidentally putting gasoline in the fuel fill, so I want to make sure I don't make that mistake.

How do people who have vehicles of different fuels make sure to get the fuel right, even when dead tired, or pre-occupied with other things?

Why do they not make the nozzles for pumps of gas and diesel a different size? Then you would not be able to put a Gas pump nozzle into a Diesel....

It works the other way around... a diesel pump nozzle won't fit into a gasser's fuel fill.
Anytime I've had a diesel it was never an issue because you end up looking specifically for a diesel pump and it's always on your mind because most stations don't have diesel in many places.

Sort of like not locking your keys in the car. Just takes responsibility and paying attention.

As for the different sizes you'd think the diesel would be oval or something so neither would fit in the other.

Most larger truck pumps are 1" as compared to 3/4 and they can really deliver some gallons per hour.

I had a diesel Beetle that had a larger filler opening so I would go to truck pumps. I could fill 15 gallons in about one minute with thise pumps.
I wonder if using the fast fill is doable with Transits. I have read horror stories of Sprinter fuel tanks having their vents burst when one uses a fast fuel pump at a truck stop, but wonder if the Transit would have the same issue.
It won't because you can't get a big truck diesel nozzle in the %&$# EasyFill hole...
