Does anyone have a picture of theirs installed? @RidingRoadsAndTrails

want to decide if I want to sand it or not

I'm also willing to give it a light sanding and see how it responds to an acetone vapor bath. I've done this twice, the second time with encouraging results but it's also extra labor/fee of $20.

The ridges show up much more prominent in the photo than in real life. When I saw Rob's photo, I wondered if he printed differently than my son did. The I took my photo and it looks just like Rob's photo. I don't see a need to sand it. Some folks are more sensitive about such things than I am, however.

Well I ordered it sans-sanding, so we’ll see how it goes! Just have to wire the switches up to actually do what they’re gonna be labeled for now…

printing in fine (0.1mm) layer height is an option to reduce layer lines, but it's also a doubling effect on the print time -- up to 12 hours for this particular part at typical 50mm/sec speed. Now, printing in resin would be a whole different ballgame, but I don't have that type of printer (too messy.)

I finally got around to attaching robwickham's prototype. I already had labels on my switches so version 1 works fine for me. The guard should be perfectly effective at preventing accidental toggling of the switches (particularly when my wife has rotated the passenger seat 90 degrees and has her feet up on the driver seat reading.

On my 2016 the mounting position for this guard has a slight curvature to it. To ensure a snug fit I took a heat gun to the guard. This was easy and it mounted nicely.

Thanks Rob.

Thanks Rob.
very clever with the heat gun! in the future, I think I could tweak the design to have that same curve (or remove those 2 veritcal pieces) and still work fine on more recent model years.

I'm interested - still available?

I'm in the process of printing another batch of these, and may be able to fulfill a few requests from this community for $30+$5 USPS (domestic) shipping. The STL file is also on cults3d.com for $10 so you can print yourself, or use a cloud print service like craftcloud3d.com (for about $45 total.)

If interested in getting one from me, please express your interest in the comments and I can follow-up with you with a DM. I can only speak to compatibility with the 2020 model year, but I suspect other year models may also have the same upfitter switch module.

Yes, I have a few from the last round of printing, and at a few different price points vs. print quality (smoother = more costly.) I have a few I've vapor smoothed as well. I'll get a photo of all of them with pricing so you can pick. What year model is your Transit?

This is the full set of guards, lowest price/quality to highest price/quality. The STL file for the latest design is available at Cults3d.com (Ford Transit Upfitter Switch Guard v2), and you can get a decent price for cloud service printing from https://craftcloud3d.com/. That's my recommendation unless you aren't comfortable with using a print service. The upside is you get to pick from more color, material, and finish options.
Vehicle Motor vehicle Grille Wood Automotive design

This is an earlier design I printed using a cloud service before I owned a printer. It's $15 + $5 in USPS shipping. Any of these can be sanded as much or as little as you like. Wet sanding as the final step in sanding can produce a nice finish, such as 1800 grit.
Wood Belt Auto part Rectangle Belt buckle

This is the latest design, but it vapor smoothed a tiny bit too long so it began to deform slightly. Some filler of your choice and sanding is an option. This is also $15 + $5 in USPS shipping.
Automotive lighting Wood Automotive exterior Grille Gas

This is the latest design printed in "normal" resolution. It's $30 + $5 in USPS shipping.
Door Rectangle Wood Wood stain Gas

These were done in "fine" resolution and have been the most popular as a tradeoff for cost vs. finish quality. No sanding needed on these. $40 + $5 USPS shipping. I have 4 of them.
Grille Rectangle Wood Chair Bumper

This one is sweet. It's printed in "fine" and vapor smoothed just the right amount. No need for sanding, and minimal print artifacts. It's $50 + $5 USPS shipping.

I am a relatively new user and as with many others, am having a difficult time getting access to DM. I would greatly appreciate your DM to me so we can get this going.
Thank you.
