OPTION 63F?

Hi guys,

I'm in the process of trying to order a Crew Van. I wanted to add 63F to make it easier to add an auxiliary heater for winter use. The dealer is saying they don't see that as an option. Anyone know why that could be? I read through the order guide and it might be that it's only available for the cargo van. Anyone else have luck ordering one for the crew?

Thanks,
Chad

63 F only available on long and extended CARGO van and includes extended range fuel tank.

fuel port comes on standard tank. just gotta drop it to hook up.

I am Not expert but I read a lot here. Some folks have been able to attach to the ford fitting w/o dropping but it is IMO harder. There is a specific heater that seems to not function correctly on the ford fitting. You Probably could find the threads. I am not much knowledgeable on the camper thing. My transit order is for personal transport = L/R 130 Just wheels.

And also after reading enough about the issues of gasoline at high altitudes, I'm thinking I'll try one of the Chinese diesel heaters in our current van this winter. A Chinese diesel is literally 1/10th (or even less) the cost of the Espar gas model, and some folks have done trick installs of retrofitting the DEF filler from the diesel Transits to their fuel door and running a separate diesel tank under the van.

Having to keep two tanks separately filled might be a hassle, but on other hand don't need to worry about issue of keeping gas tank above a certain level to keep heater usable.

I got the 63F on my '22. Needed this little connector to attach to the Webasto hose. The quick connect has a red slider piece holding a blue plug in the end of the line. I had to clip the barbs from the ends on both ends of the slider to remove it and then the blue plug. Haven't tested enough at high elevations, but no problems at 2500.

if you still have the 14x14 piece from your roof vent cut out, you can trim it down to make a nice mounting platform under the van using toggle bolts. I used a double sided nibbler attachment on my drill to do my cutting.

Update... I have used my heater a lot in the last two winters. The tank threshold is about 25%. It's worked well at 6000 feet and higher (McCall Idaho and Park City Utah) without any adjustments. I am currently experiencing a flame out error though - either carbon build up or because I haven't changed the fuel filter.

Update 2. I pulled the heater and cleaned it with brake and carb cleaner (followed the video on this page). I did not buy a new combustion chamber, but if I wanted one I would buy from redpointconversions.com. I bought my gaskets and the new Smart Temp Controller 3.0 from them.

In order to perform the altitude calibration procedure, I also installed three switches on the electrical harness so that I can easily revert to the rheostat controller when I get up to 7000 or so feet sometime this summer.
