Seems like people call it in different names.

Can we list Transit compatible tube bars that serves to protect the vehicle?

I've seen few for the front. What about the rear guards? Maybe in the form of rear light guards?

Pictures preferred.

There reason I ask is I live in a semi-rural area with lots of deer - in the road, on my property 24/7, etc. And I've never worried about protecting my cars from them, and have never had a collision in 20 years.

I assumed the guards were mostly for looks. Maybe if I lived out on the Serengeti they could be useful...

EDIT:

Also, considering the Transit is unit-body construction, can such a guard (not mounted to a traditional frame) endure much force without tweaking the body?

Any metal out front is going to absorb some impact. Multiple tie ins to the unibody will dissipate the shock better than factory. (IMHO)

I want one to mount a winch and to have a place to pull me out when this thing gets stuck. Which has happened twice now. I also need a place for a canoe/kayak/raft nose line.

And it looks cool.

Read an article a while back that said if the top bar is high enough, they are very good at deflecting the mangled deer body away from the vehicle, meaning it will not crash through the windshield and kill someone.

The venison is a plus too.

Personally though, I just slow down when I see Bambi.

Brad, you lost me at "semi-rural" and San Francisco.......apparently you have a left coast sort of peaceful coexistence with your deer population..

Around here [east-central Oklahoma], the hillbilly deer like to stand in the roadway and taunt their two-legged [and sometimes two toothed] vehicle piloting nemeses....lol

The van in the picture is owned by Northwest Quad Van in Portland, Oregon. I stopped by their shop last month to talk about a four wheel drive conversion and got a look at the van. I also talked to the people at Aluminess because I need a front receiver which they can put on the bumper. The one pictured is the prototype for the transit and may need some modification for better air flow, especially for vans with the 3.5L EB. It is not a bolt on installation, requires some metal cutting and drilling, probably best installed by them if you are in Southern California. I am also interested in their swing arm tire carrier but at this time it is not available without the rear bumper. The demand is not high at this time so they will build them to order, 6 to 8 weeks lead time, expensive but quality work.

The eurocampers linked set up looks OK. I am going to check with a local welding shop to see if they might be able to modify it to add a receiver.

Hi Brad, live in the exteme ballsack of Far West Tx. The road only came here for Big Bend National Park. We are like vampires are out when we are late coming back from a 10-12 hour round trip to the doc. We are hauling ass and both of us looking for anything
shiny, we've been living like savages, for 13, years down here, on the edge of civilization and when it gets dark, holy crap.
So far we missed Pigs, Javalinas actually, those Mofos are like rocks, the tubular cheaper set up looks perfect, the deer are pretty smart But the **** black bears and Aoudads, think Ibex...imported to hunt and then got out in the early days, those guys just about ruined our HR 250, we were 500 feet from our driveway a 4 of them jumped I front of us, dirt road, I had to lock, 'em up, the last one felt something! The thing is we had just done a 1000!mile round trip to pick up the new van, and there has never been Aoudad
This close! The night we make it home in pain and some exotic animal tries to take us out with less than 500 miles on it,
We even have Wild Burros, some body smacked one a few week back an ****** up everything. That and the Panthers, they screw in the road, but they are so smart they just amble to the side, lay down and look at you like a sub-human.
We needs a stout critter gitter, I think this one is a good start then extra bracing by yer local guy. And more lights We need this steel unit wit re- enforcements, lighted and an angled skid plate sliding over pigs/ Javalina, and a winch plate woul be a chinch, to install.
I wanted a limited slip rear-end more aggressive tires, so then comes the selecible locker from eaton. The affordable real bumper,
Get solar installed and driving out of here when it's 120 in shade at night. Bubye. And ceramic magnets from Amazon for temp awning. So watch out for tweeker... that the don't mess up yer van.
Go simple, things that come in out out easily, this is our fourth van in 35 years, an it has the dimensions....we are
Doing 95 % Stealth, but we are enjoying it, it!s a place to stay while my wife tries surgeons for her devastated back,
Good luck, I want to move the jack from under pass seat a put in to more AGM,s for the solar we already have, then isolate one side
Just for starting.
SeeYa for real maybe some time, in SF! fun.
Take it easy brother, Sancho.
