Hey all,

We purchased a 2016 T350HD XLT EL HR DRW Passenger Wagon from a dealer out of state. The DMV finally sent the tag and registration. I was surprised to see a standard First in Flight tag and no licensed weight or weighted tag. If I remember correctly my van weighs in a little under 7500K lbs dry/curb weight. Wondering if anyone else has titled a Transit in NC and has already done the legwork with DMV to figure out if it needs a weighted tag or not. Don't plan to tow anything with it but curious nonetheless.

Thanks!

It's quite difficult to interpret NC DMV and/or NCGS regulations consistently, but, at this time, it seems your vehicle's identity as a "Passenger Wagon" exempts it from bearing weighted plates.
Private trucks, however, are specifically targeted. So a 6k lb F250, towing a 3k lb trailer with a 5k lb load would need a 14k lb (total weight) plate at $287/annually, while a 6k lb Expedition towing the same 3k lb trailer, with 5k lb load, pays $38/annually.
