I've been behind a couple different Promaster's lately and noticed they didn't have a high mount, third brake light. I think all three roof height versions of the Transit have it and thought it was a DOT thing. What gives?

As I recall, it's only DOT required for GVWR of under 10,000 pounds. The heaviest GVWR Transit 350 does not have an actual brake light up there -- just a tail light. Which is stupid, for what little extra wire would cost; I'd think it would be cheaper to wire them all the same, in this particular regard.

On the 350HD it isn't really a taillight, it is a clearance light, that is required by law on vehicles over 80" wide.
I do wish it also had a brakelight in the same housing- seems they could have put both in there.
Some day I want to see if I can add some high intensity LEDs and turn it into a brake light also.
