Other than Sportsmobile, has anyone seen any RV makers looking to upfit the Transit as a class "B" campervan?

Most likely, I'll end up going with SMB anyway, but it would be nice to see more RV makers using Transits as a base platform.

Van Specialties Upfitter

After taking delivery of our Cargo Van Conversion from Van Specialties in Oregon, I can vouch for their expertise. Great work, fair price. They are busy for a reason. They work on various makes and models of Vans, M.B., Ford, Dodge, whatever your imagination can dream up. And if you are limited on your imagination, just tell them what you want to do with the Van, and they will give you creative solutions. We wanted to maintain the utility of a cargo van, and have space for Bikes, Boards and other adventure support gear, and have a comfortable place to sleep when were done. We wanted to boondock and have power to support the galley, rear shower, LED lighting, fantastic fan and music without ever hooking up to shore power. We wanted diesel heat, so that we only carried a single fuel source, and let the 200 watts of solar do the rest with the AGM house batteries. Their website has some limited samples of their work, the social media site has more current builds, including Promaster, and Transit. Good luck with your buildout, its a fun and continuous project.

We also had our Sprinter converted at Van Specialties. They did a great job. As stated, they will do whatever you want. Also as stated their price for converting was very fair.

Would love to see more pictures of the conversions. Trying to sketch out what goes where, and weighing regular vs long wheelbase versions. Seeing what works for others is very helpful. :)

DITTO on the Van Specialties Kudos. We are enjoying our rig and get thumbs up wherever we are... even had one guy in a Chevy passenger van give a thumbs up.

:) We got bling on the outside even when muddy (& we'd recently gotten back on the highway after ~20ish miles off pavement.)

These panels allow me to keep from every having to switch off the Domestic Fridge, while running LED's in Galley, Overhead, Under Cabinet and under bed, computers, music and Fantastic Fan without ever having the need for Shore Power.

The red under cabinet led's make for a much easier transition when going outside into the night than if we had the bright white overhead lights on. The under bed storage lights work great when loading or unloading at night.

The front bed panel drops down to make a bench supported by the diesel webasto heater box and wheel well tub box. We are currently finishing 4" hr35 foam bed/bench cushions.

that's pretty awesome, you know something was done right when you get that much respect for it from random folks.

the above link is for the Zamp solar system we installed. This 200 watt, 30 Amp kit is designed for a 3 Port Solar Roof Cap. These 2 - 100 watt panels put out 11.2 amps of charging power. Even in less than full sun, I am getting 6-8 ah continuous. It is the best improvement we have done so far for the Van, by far. Now, this winter I might be singing a different tune when we can finally utilize the Diesel Heater.
