Hi to all,

It's a 2016 Ford Transit Chassis, 3500HD 3.2L I5 which has been used for a motorhome, I hope this enough for identification?

Here's my questions,
I have found the fuel filter near the fuel tank.
  1. is there also an upper fuel filter, if so where in the engine compartment is it?
  2. I would like to be able to change the fuel filter myself and read the owners manual and it "seems" pretty easy but probably messy. I'm concerned about air locks, would filling the fuel filter canister after replacing help prevent an air lock?
  3. The owners manual mention the Schrader valve (a bike type) found it, it mentions an adapter. What's the adapter's name and where can I get one.
  4. I've read the thread of a member who hasn't encouraged me regarding changing his fuel filter. Is there a video or book with clear photos and directions I can get to help me through the process when I decide to change the fuel filter.
Obviously I want to do as much maintenance on the unit as possible: oil change, fuel filter, air filter, things that I should/could be doing. Oil change seems pretty straight forward like every other one I've done.
Any help from the forum with my questions is gratefully appreciated.

The only difficult thing about changing the fuel filter is turning it clockwise to remove it because it is so bloody tight, apart from that just change the element and o-rings and re attach it, on mine i didn't even fill it with fuel, i turned the ignition on without starting the engine and leave the fuel pump to fill the fuel filter. Then i started the engine and i idled it at 2000rpm for 30 seconds and thats it. All you need to check is that the two arrows line up on the filer and filter housing.

Dunno if it applies to the diesel, but on the 3.5 there is a pint of oil lurking above the filter you need to be prepared for when removing it.

Thank you gentlemen for your advice, maybe I'm making to much out it???

The owner manual mentions attaching an adapter to the Schrader Valve if after changing the fuel filter the engine runs rough to bleed air. I'm going to go over to Ford to find out what type of adapter they are talking about? I'm sure if there is one it will probably be about a couple of hundred bucks.

Thanks again guys, this forum is very helpful to newbie's.

a shrader valve is the same kind of valve an inner tube has in a tire. i would imagine that you would push on the center shaft of the valve with a small screw driver or other tool to release the air in your fuel system while the pump and/or while engine is running
