Had new rear brakes (calipers, rotors) installed Tuesday. On way home one wheel started smoking (passenger rear) . Took vehicle back to Les Schwab, they replaced the caliper suspect a faulty part (piston).
Have been driving for past two days and the same passenger side rear wheel has been getting extremely hot. Went on a 100 mile round trip. First leg, did not notice any issue. Drove home, the rear passenger side wheel very hot to touch. Drove to Les Schwab (about 12 miles) the wheel had cooled. Now only slightly hotter than driver side rear.
This is all within the 1000 mile brake break-in period.
Les Schwab prepared to replace caliper again. They spoke with HQ and the parts manufacturer, both said it is often the case to experience 80+ degree temperature difference between sides during the break-in period. It has something to do with the "ratcheting" system on transit rear brakes.
Anyone had a similar issue? I searched and didn't find anything.
We leave in a couple of days too Loveland to have a pop top installed by Colorado Camper Van. Nervous about trip given brake situation.
comments appreciated.
Thanks,
