Hello ,

I just posted a new owner intro post on my new 350HD 3.2 diesel. I have a few questions for other diesel owners if you please. Firstly, a few times now on start up the engine runs rough and felt like it was "missing" hasn't happened for a week so maybe its a non issue, also not sure if it's related, but while driving through town , 35 mph, the van exhibits a sudden " herky jerky" sensation which also happens randomly at highway speeds. Just random but noticeable. Lastly, at 1k miles a few days ago, the " change oil required" notice came on. I couldn't find anything on a 1k oil change? I stopped by the dealership and talked with the service manager who was surprised but didn't seem concerned and made an appointment for later this week.

Thanks !

I've had two 350 diesels now since July 2015. The 1st was a 12 pax that we put about 11K miles on, and now the 15 pax with about 12K miles on. I'm new to owning diesel engines, but I never experienced what you have to date. Let the dealership check out the engine and maybe check all the fuel filters on it. I'm assuming you've gone through a few tanks of fuel, but maybe try to run it as close to empty before filling. Those would be my guess/suggestion, purely from a non-technical non-mechanic point of view. If it turns out to be something unusual, let us know. Enjoy your new Transit.

When was the van built? I've read, but can't confirm, the OLM will come on in a year regardless of mileage. The 350HD I bought last August actually was right at a year old based on build date- I assume the dealer cleared the OLM as at 5600 miles now mine has yet to come on.
Have you drained the fuel filter to make sure there is no water in it?

The dealer, if he is any good should hook up their computer and check for codes and run diagnostics.
Be sure and let us know what happens!

Thanks for the replies ! I'll keep you posted if I find out anything. I ran it almost to 0 miles left today before filling it up. 18.9 mpg hand calculated ! I will check the build date Budsky , that's good info, thank you. I will also tell the service dept when I take it in on Friday.

Dropped the rig off for it's first 1k oil change, At this point I am assuming it was a build date programing code. Since it was a free service for my first one I won't complain. I did tell them about the random power loss issues and asked about the fuel filter. I was told that there are no serviceable fuel filters in the transit but they would run a computer check for codes. They did not find any, which I expected. Only had one event this week which was pulling out on to the highway, the van stuttered for about 2 seconds before acting normal. Nothing since then so I'll just assume it's breaking in.

You now know they are idiots and need to find somewhere else to go next time!

There is a large replaceable canister filter underneath at the rear of the fuel tank. It even has a water drain.
