I’m working on my van conversion which includes transporting my motorcycle inside my van. The only problem I have is the gasoline fumes coming from my bike. I have drained the gas out of the gas tank and carbs and the smell of the fumes is still overwhelming.
please help

Not sure if you have a gas can inside the van also, but this is where my issue was. As long as i turn off the fuel to the bike and run it until it drains the carb bowl its never been the bike. Every gas can except the red epa approved cans leak and this is where my problem has been. They are a pain to use etc.. but the cap seals well and there is no vent.

I even thought about installing an auxilary tank under the van like 10 gallons or so just to eliminate the gas can issue. Add that to the list........

Make a small sealed box with a lid in the rear corner of the van and vent that box to the outside with a scoop vent intake and then a floor vent for exhaust, and use that box to store your gas can. Mounting a 10 gallon under the van is a great idea as well. I've been thinking of that for a while. Carry 100% gas in it for the bikes, and then if I ever run out I have an emergency supply.

Gas can will do it unless you seal it well. One trip I sealed off the can and didn't have any issues - I would occasionally open it up to let it breathe.

If you have a carbed bike with zero fuel leaks you can still get fumes out of the fuel cap breather. If that is sealed right you still have a vent somewhere on the carb. Seal both and you should be ok.

FI bikes are the way to go for less stink - they run a charcaol evap canister just like cars. I thought about building a charcoal setup to help with fume smell. In the end I bought a hitch hauler.

If it was me I wouldn't bother draining the fuel tank or carbs, you will never get the smell out which is the real issue.

By floor vent, do you mean something electric or just a hole cut in the floor that I can cover and uncover?
There are already two outflow vents behind the rear wheels. You need to keep pushing air toward them.
As with the others, I have very little problem with the FI bikes and do not carry cans inside.

Out of curiosity what are you riding? The wife and I will be transporting 2KLR 650s in our van and this has been on my mind. Would a proper wash and degrease help? Maybe an exhaust plug? If you have a rear fan could you run it on suck?

The KLR will be very similar to the DR because they are both carb'd with a vent tube. The FI bikes also have tank vents but won't vent from the carb.

The new 2021 KLR’s actually, finally, have fuel injection. Hopefully that will motivate Suzuki to upgrade the DR. For what it’s worth I installed a check valve on the vent of my DR (the California charcoal canister stuff was removed by the PO) and it still leaves slight fumes that are detectable if you sniff above the fuel cap, while the carb area doesn’t have a detectable odor ... I’ve never vanned the bike.

I have a 1992 nighthawk cb750.
I’ve run all the gas out of it and emptied the bowls, I’m letting it sit in the van right now to see if it works I’ll send an update later.
