And good point about the wheelie bar vs wheelie control, gt

The point I was making is that people using modern machinery with all the rider aids are representative of the cultural phenomenon on taking shortcuts instead of learning to be master.

Tariffs are a tax on Imports that serve the sole purpose of making an imported item less competitive in the market.

If the nation imposing the tariff has an industry that is being priced out of the market by an amount equal to or less than the tariff, those domestically produced products become more competitive.

The consumer will purchase whichever product they want to. So, yes, the consumer purchasing an item that the tariff applies to will pay that hike.

If the consumer instead purchases a domestically produced product they may pay near the same price, but the consumer won't be paying the tariff.

A lot of the media seem to be overlooking the purpose of a tariff is to balance the playing field in order to promote domestic production, jobs, etc. Surprising that many people don't understand that.

Unfortunately, our outrageous tax system has driven many/most domestic producers of goods to offshore production in order to remain competitive. Likewise, the fiscal irresponsibility of the congress-critters has created an environment that is unsustainable. Just as all previous attempts at fiat money have been for the past 5000 years or so. Each previous attempt has failed for nations all over the globe. Throughout history these systems tend to average about a century before total collapse of any phoney-baloney money decreed upon unsuspecting citizens. This particular piece of wool called the Federal Reserve was pulled over the eyes of the citizens in a vote taken over Christmas break when most representatives were not present to prevent it passing into law.

The founders original plan to pay for the federal government primarily with duties collected on imports would have promoted domestic production and growth if the monetary system had remained based upon something more tangible than a politician's imagination.

Harley's "Made in the U.S.A." heritage kinda falls flat on its face when import tariffs can cause such a stock sell-off. ;)
Harley is all but dead in the USA, The only ones still buying them are the last of the Baby Boomers. But Harley is big in Europe and still growing, So Harley has been moving production over there for the last couple of years to cover that market. (And maybe to begin to abandon this market)

And Trump is an idiot, The Tariffs were killing the farmers before the floods!

Actually, this thread has served to reconfirm what I already thought I knew.
