Hey guys. I have a 2018 HR LB with 25k on it. I was driving down from Montana yesterday to CO, and started to notice a groan when turning sharp left or right. It comes and goes in volume, but very repeatable. It is coming from the rear end I think. Cannot hear it while driving straight or at speeds. Only while turning. I am on vacation and need to start the next 1000 mile drive back home to WI. I have a service apt Wednesday morning, but I’m really hoping to find something before then. I’m kind of stuck until then. We drove 2500 miles so far the last two weeks.

brake pads looked ok
No leaks from seals on rear axle
Parking brake was used a lot on this trip, seems you can change the sound a bit sometimes pulling it while turning. Parking brake does seem to fully disengage.
cleaned rotors and pads as the roads were very dusty
I’m loaded to 8500 lbs total from a local scale, so I do have some weight in there

I was driving on a very bumpy gravel road just before this started. Nothing crazy pothole like, just one of those gravel roads with the small close bumps from cars. I kept it 10 mph, but still, it was bumpy. Could be the instigator. Also, I may have some slight drag I the rear end. Cannot tell if it’s elevation reducing power or friction causing it.

Anything I can check that I have not yet? I’ve read a lot about rear oem brake pads maybe being the culprit, but those posts seem to be localized to rev. Mine does it fwd or rev.

if you have a limited slip differential (LSD) it is probably that. they can get cranky. It may need fresh fluid and friction modifier. or was serviced and wrong modifier put in. That will do it as well. Ask me how i know.

My brakes have groaned when in reverse since new.

There does not seem to be much on the forum but searching is all about knowing the right search words

I went through that on my last transit. Not fun.

This transit only has 25k on it though. Seems really early for fluid change. The rear diff has also never been serviced.

Dust shields are not bent. Took a look through.

I see you added as much value here as you did in the post attached by Michael. Thanks for the insight.
Oh, just wait. Some of the "helpful" replies you'll receive will make you grateful for my little joke.

Geez, and people tell ME to lighten up...

I am not familiar with "clutch packs". What are those? Part of the ABS?

Update. They are changing out the clutch packs. How they would go out so early is beyond me. But thankfully they had a set in stock. Let’s hope this is correct.
First I’ve heard of such an early failure. Kudos on the dealership for stepping up on an issue they could have easily kicked down the road. And for fox sake they ACTUALLY HAD THE PART!

Limited Slip: I remember reading a number of threads in the past where using a Friction Modifier, Or the lack of Friction Modifier, Was much discussed here. Something else to learn about.

Oh, man, you beat me to it. I was going to go for an obvious joke about how the stock seat makes my rear end groan by the time I'm mid-vacation, but yours was better.
