I guess it just depends on how one wants to mount the solar panels. The rack I’m getting has an inside dimension of 65.1” so it’s a mute point for me.
Which rack is that?

That rack has an interior dimension of 53.81”. Even worse than the other ones

The Remora website is confusing.

For the high and mid-roof (non-extended) 148" modular rack they show these figures for width:
External width = 65.5"
Internal width = 65.13"

For the "148 X high roof" (which I take to mean extended body) they show these figures for width:
External width = 65.5"
Internal width = 53.81"

These figures don't make sense to me as they look like the same rack but just they called out the extended separately (?) (Oh, see next paragraph)

All three have different usable lengths (which makes sense). <----- Not sure how to strike-through but NEVER MIND. Remora shows the same usable length for the high and mid-roof 148" racks. That seems like a waste for a medium roof van which has a longer roof than a high roof (non-extended). Both the AVC and FVCO racks have more usable length on the medium roof than the non-extended high roof (as it should be!)

But back to the internal width. Why would the width be different for non-extended vs. extended length? Which figures are correct? Losing 12" of width between inside and outside of rack seems impossible so I tend to believe the 65.13" figure.

I'm not an aesthetic fan of this rack -- I prefer the "hide all the claptrap" of the Flatline or AVC style rack to the open Remora sides.

I would like to see how they deal with transferring the forces down to the Ford stud inserts. I do like how the Flatline one aligns the force over the stud (as do Hein's brackets). The AVC cantilevers the force a bit to the outside of the brackets. The Remora?

@Scotty49 do you mind posting some more pics of your roof arrangement, specifically how much the AC hangs off thd back of the roof? I'm in the process of deciding where I want my AC and fan - either like yours or AC up front and fan in the back.

Just checked out an Aluminess roof rack that was installed on a Sprinter the other day. Couldn't help thinking what a crazy amount of money just to mount solar panels onto it! Sure makes Hein's mounts plus a few bars of 8020 a helluva bargain and an attractive, professional looking setup. 🧐

Here is a CAD image of the Fiamma F45S mounts we are developing for the high roof Transit. Through bolts (and respective holes in pads) are not yet shown but we will be supplying those as well. Our intention is to use blind T-nuts on the inside pads to make installation easier. The pads will attach and seal to the van side with VHB tape. The drip cover will be made of 4mm black or white ABS. We are looking for a customer who is willing to test this design. View attachment 168398

All the best,
Hein

Still looking for someone to test this? Have a 2017 350HD I’m interested in mounting a Fiamma on.
