Does everyone’s maxx air fan rattle a bunch on bumpy roads? Our lid also shakes quite a bit when closed at highway speeds. Anyone else have this problem or did I do something wrong?

After about 2,000 miles of silence we thought ours broke while driving back from a road trip when it started rattling something crazy....I took the screen off once home and checked it as well as the top with a ladder. I could reproduce the rattle but it "represented" only when hit with a cross wind or the perfect harmonics from the perfect road.

Is yours 24/7 or just high speed with side wind?

24/7 and I'd say something is wrong. Ours is silent except for specific conditions. (80 mph alone will not cause ours to rattle)

Sounds like a luck of the draw. I've had mine for about 30K miles and no rattles. I recall reading that you should only drive with the fan fully open or fully closed, so I've always followed that rule. I actually rarely close it, so many of those miles have been with the fan open.

Let us know if you find a way to tighten it up. I have been meaning to do the same but with covid all the round tuits are backordered due to supply chain issues and the Suez canal being blocked didn't help either.

Just back from a week in the Mojave National Preserve. Windy nights with the Maxx vent open, at any amount, and the thing would bounce up and down and rattle till I just shut it down. Kinda defeats the purpose! I can't remember it being so bad on our other trips?
I too would be interested in hearing about anyones remedies...Maxx air vent folks, are you listening...?

Is this with the manual or auto-opening version?

I wonder... does it sound like something hitting the inside of the casing? I ask because I installed two Maxxair fans in my van this week. The first one would not seat properly in the rear left corner. I tried the other in the opening and all was fine. Then I tried the first fan in the other opening - still would not seat in that same corner. When I turned it over and looked, the bundle of cables was fine but further back inside the case the cables had a zip tie around them and they had moved out of the casing and over the lip that was supposed to seat in the channel when mounting. Maybe that loose zip and cables starts to reverberate when the van gets to a certain speed due to air flow and rattles against the side of the casing.

I was having this problem .So I took the screen and the fan blade off from the inside of the van , lifted the cover up. With the cover up I was able to push the rubber seal off the plastic at the back and half way back on the side edges . then I applied two layers duct tape , and put the seals back in place. This lifted the seal enough to hold the fan top tighter .

Mine rattled too and it was frustrating after all the effort to “quiet” the van. From earlier posts on this Forum I learned that if you contact Maxxair they will send you a free anti-rattle kit which solved the problem for me.
