manual shift mode

I've seen this discussed a few times, but I think those discussion were on vans w the 6 spd, not the current 10 spd. How manual is the manual shifting? I assume it won't let you over rev, but does it over-nanny you on downhills?
I ask because of past history. I test drove a Promaster gasser and going downhill it was overly aggressive shifting down when going downhill. I like to leave it in a high gear and get some free speed going downhill (when appropriate of course) The diesel version (which I bought) is much better. It is a little too much, but acceptable. It will shift down when getting on the brakes going downhill. A little sooner than I want but not as annoying as the gas PM.

I don’t live in a hilly area but having said that, I use the manual shifting a lot and it seems to do whatever I want it to do. However, if I do forget to downshift after a long highway run coming to an exit ramp, when I get slow enough, it will downshift by itself when I get really slow.

Not sure about your van, but the smaller TC uses only 4 out of 8 gears in the manual shift mode.
