I forgot about the timer! Thanks. Reading about the current sensor had me worried. Since our van sits without being used for weeks during some parts of the year, I am considering using some kinda solar "tender" just sitting on the dash or something.

That should work- I use solar panels on my 2 old pickup trucks since they don't get driven much either...

Since the cig lighters are on a timer they wouldn't work, the CCP would work fine.
Really? My center console cig lighter is on all the time - charge my iPad with it over night when we're camping. Charger has an indicator LED that is always on.

CCP = Customer Connection Point, located on the left side of the drivers seat pedestal under a snap-off cover.
Thanks!
Familiar with it, just never heard the acronym before.
I've got the three.

Maybe they changed it for 2016- my 2015 they both turn off after 30 minutes.
they turn off in my 2016 after 30 minutes as well. (all three -- i have the rear power outlet as well.) if HCSGuy has a way of keeping them on, i'd be interested in hearing it.

Crap - you guys are right! Pretty tricky; it even turns on when you open a door, but definitely turns off. Now I have to switch back to Sprinters:)

It's a great circuit to use for activating relays that control circuits you don't want live 24/7.

There are plenty of ways to modify any one of the 12v plugs for non-switched power, I set up one behind the driver's seat that can be powered either through the 30 minute circuit or direct from the CCP depending on the needs of the moment.

Would the positive (+) access terminal and a negative (-) grounding connection point located under the hood work as a battery tender connection to the starter battery?
Since that is where the manual says to charge from, it seems that would work and not confuse any sensors. I keep one on my Super Duty truck for when it stays parked for extended periods and it is very helpful yet it does not have the more complex battery system our Transits have.
Some of our battery experts in here will most likely have good ideas about connecting too.

You can connect a battery tender to either the + post under the hood or the spare positive post on the battery terminal. You can use any of the chassis ground points or make a new one for the negative side. Ford says to not use the CCP for connecting a battery tender. I have a 5 amp Battery Tender and it works beautifully.

That is exactly what Ford tech at the national number and Battery Tender Corporation told me.

I connected jumper harness from Battery Tender directly to my single flooded battery stock cable ends that had extra vertical studs on them.

Scase

I am going to cut off a short section of a battery tender jumper and hook it to my CB radio and power the radio off of the harness wired to the battery when I am on the road.

Hmmm. I seem to have missed that caution warning. Anyone know why Ford might not want you using the CCP for a tender? Clearly the current flow won't be an issue, so what might be the problem?

as i remember, a ford tech at a dealership when asked about hooking up battery tender to the CCP said no, in the original thread where a forum member told this story from his trip to the dealership.

my guess at the time was perhaps there was some confusion with the tech as to what a battery tender really is, all the tech heard was battery charger and thought about the charger boosting a weak transit battery and said no. (a 100 amp boost and the 60 amp fuse)
