Is there a guide available that describes the proper steps for removing the headliner? I need to get up there to drill for my roof rack light wiring.

I looked through the Helm manual. The pillar covers come off first and the rear section is held on with clips you need to hold down the rear door gasket to reveal. At least one of those fasteners needs to be replaced. It's a common auto store item though. Part of the lighting harness is glued to the top of the headliner so you need to remove the lights and disconnect the harness from the body. Other than that it's like the rest of the interior trim. Pull it off, using trim tools as required.

Thanks for checking. Trim tools? Something I'd find at an auto shop? This is my first DIY modification to any vehicle.

You may find the following thread helpful incl. references for Wurth tools:

Please let us know how it goes with your headliner, as I have some projects in mind also.

Thanks

Nice. I just ordered a set.
I'm not sure when I'll get to this project, but when I do, I'll post pics or videos or something.

alarmist, any chance you have the name or part # of that connector I'll need to break? I'd like to have a few on hand at the time of the project.

It's just a common push in panel plug. Once you get it out your local auto store will have a selection. I misread it the last time, you don't need to move the door seal to get at the pins, it looks like it needs to come out to clear the headliner.

So, is there any insulation in there (other than the headliner, itself)? Curious as to how well-insulated a wagon is, compared to a cargo van that's been insulated and paneled.

Thanks a bunch. That really helps!
Then I'll just use the removal tools to pop out the lights and vents and let them dangle until I can reach behind and disconnect the harness?
